A Kept Woman “Don’t touch it my lady. You have no idea how long it’s been dead.” Nameko pinched her nose as the horrid smell wafted along with the stirring wind. As much as these things were hated she refused to leave the girl’s side. Three months had passed since they’d left Tokyo. She didn’t regret one day of following her mistress. Things about the female were strange but liveable. That night she’d entered the room after being sent for. Kagome had simply stated that she was leaving and asked the maid to come with her. Without asking any questions she’d packed up her meager belongings. She ate three decent meals a day and the lady treated her like a friend instead of a servant. The only person that irritated her at times was the young lady they’d picked up over two months ago.
“Wow, what do you think happened to him?” Misao poked it with the edge of her boot. The thing was definitely dead if the maggots coming from the ears were any indication. The wussy maid turned her head as the skull broke from prodding. It looked like a deformed man in her opinion. She’d never seen anything like it in all her years of traveling. Not even while traveling with Himura had she come across something so disgusting. The maid snapped at her causing Kagome to giggle. The girl was a weird one but she considered her a close friend now. Someone that didn’t judge her for what she was. Not once had the other girl called her annoying or demanded that she shut up.
“I’d say the throat was slit. Something extremely sharp and it was also heated. If you look past the decaying skin here. There is no bleeding, like it was cauterized by extreme heat.” It made her think of an old children’s tale from her younger years. Damn how long had it been for her since she’d seen her family? The youkai had to been dead for some time since maggots were already present. She was shocked that any animals hadn’t picked up on the scent and decided to eat the corpse. The presence she’d felt was still around so this couldn’t be him. What she’d felt last week had been strong. She doubted that he’d die so easily. Perhaps he’d been the one to kill this pathetic creature. “Come let’s get out of here.”
“I am not going to ask how you know all that crap.” Misao walked back over to the horse as the two women trailed behind. The mare shook it’s head as she approached. Well, this was one of the better treats of traveling as a trio. Kagome had chanced upon her one evening during her travels. Being hungry she’d tried to rob the pair. The girl was strange, really abnormal. She’d once thought that Aoshi and Himura were fast. The female had her pinned against the tree with a dagger to her throat before she could blink. For a minute she’d feared death until the grumbling in her stomach had caused the girl to smile. She’d been invited to dinner and they’d gotten to talking. The next morning she’d set out with them.
The horse shifted as the pair came up to stand beside their own steeds. Misao felt only the smallest amount of disappointment at being gone so long. Secretly, she missed Aoshi but what did it matter? The man didn’t have time for her anymore. Hell, when had he ever had time for her? Traveling with Kagome was an adventure and they went in style. The outfit she had on was of fine material and she had her own horse. Not to mention a companion that she could talk to about things. The girl had listened to her speak of Aoshi and how she felt. Instead of calling her a foolish child that needed to get her head out of the clouds, Kagome had been attentive and understanding.
“Is he the one you are looking for?” Nameko climbed upon the animal without much trouble. Not in her wildest dream had she pictured herself traipsing across country on a horse. The younger female managed to get up on their rides without any difficulty. The wind shifted bringing the foul stench back. “That thing is foul. Please, let’s move before I bring up my dinner.”
“Very well, let’s move some and find a place to make camp for the night.” Kagome set her horse into motion. She didn’t see how Nameko rode sidesaddle. Her and Misao had the woman make them suitable clothes for traveling in. Riding pants had been made for her while the little ninja had something similar to her original blue outfit made. Instead of the shorts, the leggings went all the way down to her ankles due to the lower temperatures. They both already questioned her fighting abilities. Going into her whole tale was out of the question. So, she’d skirted the truth and informed them that she a miko, a holy woman. The look on Nameko’s face had been priceless. She’d blurted out ‘How did a holy woman become a mistress?’ She hadn’t taken any offense to the question and simply answered, ‘Hard times.’
Thoughts entered her mind and the unwanted image entered her head. Kagome sighed as the man’s face came lingering in the background. She’d never found it hard to leave anyone behind before. The man had been nothing to her. He’d been using her to get information, that was all. If she didn’t know better she might have let herself fall for the jackass. It was bad enough her body still demanded that she go back and get another taste of him. The man had left an impression on her feminine senses. She compared every man that came across their path to him. “No, I don’t believe that was him.”
“Well, you do realize that we are getting close to Kyoto right?” Misao knew the area well having traveled it several times. Another few days and they’d be back in her home city. She doubted Aoshi would be there since he was most likely off playing government hound dog with that jerk. Himura had eventually convinced him that one way to make up for his past sins was to repent and help others. Well, that was all good and dandy but did that mean he had to shut her out? It had gotten to the point he rarely talked to her. The last day she’d gone to see him he’d snapped at her. All she’d done was touch his waist to keep from falling over and busting her face. The angry glare had chilled her to the bone. Not wanting to deal with it anymore, she’d left that same evening.
“Yes, but it looks like that might be our target. I have the feeling that’s exactly where he is.” Kagome had informed them that there were creatures known as youkai out there. The things were real and very dangerous. Neither woman questioned her reasons or desires. Nameko followed out of loyalty, while Misao did it out of curiosity. As long as she wasn’t in Tokyo she didn’t care. She didn’t want to be arrested on sight. “Think your Aoshi will be there?”
“I doubt it but if we head into town I’m going to stay away from anyone I know. I don’t feel like answering any questions. I sure don’t feel like seeing him again.” Misao knew part of that was true. She did want to see him again, if only to remind herself of what she’d never have. She doubted he even realized that she’d taken off. He was off playing Save The World with Mr. Snooty Pants.
“Pffft, I’d suggest you both keep your mind off males. The whole lot of them are nothing but trouble and a waste of time. Better to be alone than having some horny male sniffing up your kimono for only one thing. Most of them only want that one thing and they aren’t no good at delivering it to begin with. Heed my advice both of you and keep focused on doing what’s best for yourself.” Nameko scolded the pair riding ahead of her. She was well aware of both of their problems. The ninja was panting after a male that thought of her as an annoying kid. While Kagome had fallen for that no good officer back in Tokyo. She couldn’t imagine what the girl saw in the man. He was nothing but trouble with a capital T and not very attractive to begin with.
“I suppose,” Kagome grinned wickedly but winked at Misao. “That’s not true though, every once in a while you get one that knows how to deliver it.” Her name being scolded from behind made her lips clamp shut. The ninja just got all wide eyed at the statement. She laughed knowing the girl was dying to hear more but refrained from saying anything just yet. They’d have to wait until the older woman was asleep before conversing. Kagome had to agree though, most of her lovers had been boring. There was nothing boring or dull about Saitou and she wouldn’t declare him to be lacking just because she wasn’t with him.
Misao let her mind wonder, knowing the girl would fill her in later. She hadn’t experienced the act of sex yet but knew enough. She doubted that Aoshi would be boring in that department. Everything about the man excited her, she was sure that would be even more stimulating to experience. Shame the old woman traveled with them at times. It was like having a parent around making sure you didn’t misbehave. She was more than eager to know exactly what Kagome was referring to. Just what was it like to be with a man?
The streets of Kyoto were too busy for his liking. Too many merchants were lining the corners trying to sell their wares. It had to be due to the large event taking place in a few days. An important government official was coming into town. General Sayiko was welcoming them into town by throwing a large party at his home. The large place was near the center of town and was large enough to pack dozens of people. Of course, Saitou had an invitation to attend the event. He was going in as a means of security but secretly his mission was something entirely different. It was a brilliant cover for him to do what was needed.
His partner shifted beside him as a group of females strolled pass. He grunted when Aoshi looked down after examining each then shook his head. “You aren’t going to find her here. Do you really think she’d come home?” They both had given up their search over a month ago. Neither female had been found or even the slightest trace. Both had vanished off the face of the earth. Perhaps after this case they would need to separate and go their own way. There was a slim chance that both girls were in the same direction. He was disappointed he’d had to put his own searching on hold but he’d find her eventually. Then she’d answer for running from him.
“She might,” Aoshi turned his eyes down the street. The pedestrians were busy going about their lives unaware of the danger they were in. Saitou looked at ease despite the circumstances that had brought them back to Kyoto. Six weeks ago two files had been stolen, one containing the designs of a new weapon, the other plans of military strategies. The culprits had separated leaving two trails that had turned cold. Him and Saitou had been called in to investigate and retrieve the missing papers. There was a rumor that Sayiko was involved somehow. The party would be a perfect opportunity to search the man’s home. It had to be done in a cautious manner, so the man didn’t realize that he was now a suspect.
Saitou shrugged his shoulder and nodded at another passing female. The woman giggled and blushed but didn’t stop to speak. He wanted to call Aoshi pathetic as he continued to scope for any signs of the weasel. He knew he was just as bad but better at hiding it. Every female that crossed his path he made sure it wasn’t Kagome. At least he admitted he wanted the woman for a specific reason. Aoshi was still in denial, which didn’t make any sense to him. The man might as well admit he wanted to fuck the girl. Might do them both some good. He’d be less irritable and she’d be less annoying. “Let’s go. We are supposed to start setting up security measures.”
The fire crackled as the steady snoring filled the night air. Kagome suppressed the giggle as Misao moved the cover to lay next to her. It’d taken the older woman a while to fall asleep. “Shh, or she’ll wake up and tell us to go to sleep.” The air was chilly as she cuddled deeper in the thick material. It was a poor substitute for a pair of strong arms. It would feel so nice to have that certain pair to wrap around her and just hold her close. She had to be losing it, she’d never let a man effect her so strongly since Inuyasha. What made Saitou so special?
“Sorry,” Misao climbed under her blanket and got close enough to where she was facing the other girl. Only a foot separated their faces but it made it easy to talk without being too loud. It was rare they got to sit up and have these talks. They’d soon be back in Kyoto, it made her nervous. “I’m getting kind of nervous. What if he’s there? Think I should try and talk to him? He might not want to talk to me. Well if he does it’ll probably be to ask where I ran off to. I’m not sure what to do about him. So, what about this guy of yours? What’s he like?”
“Well, I already told you he’s very bossy. We really didn’t have that much of a relationship. You are probably closer to your Aoshi than we were. Everything happened fast between us, I’m not sure why it happened that way.” She pushed herself up on an elbow and looked down thoughtfully. “How do I explain this? I’ve been in love before. There was a guy in my past that was my first love. Since I lost him and moved on I never let anyone else really get to me. They were just there as a means to survive, you know. I always planned on being with them, I knew I wouldn’t love them. Then this last man comes along unexpected. He’s unlike anyone I’ve ever known. There is nothing timid or shy about him and he’s rather bold. Just thinking about him sends shivers down my spine. I guess I’m just as hopeless as you.”
“So, what were you talking about earlier?” Misao grinned as Kagome flopped back under the covers. “Oh no you don’t. Come on you got to tell me. I’ve never been with a man. So, what’s it like? Does it hurt? Is it true that all men are shaped different?” Eagerness made her lean forward as the miko peeked around the edge. She’d heard one woman complaining in town while shopping that her husband couldn’t do anything for her. Then the companion had remarked her man was too big to enjoy the intercourse.
“It hurt the very first time but it wasn’t that bad. After that it can be enjoyable. Yes, all men are different. Their things differ in length, width and shape.” Kagome snickered at the shocked expression easily seen in the firelight. “Every lover is different from my experience. I’ve had a few I swear I could have fallen asleep during it. I’m surprised that I was even able to get wet. Then you have some men that don’t believe in foreplay but they expect to be able to ram it in there. You have some that love to perform foreplay but then suck at the actual sex. Or vise versa, so hard to find a man that’s great at both and that can last for more than a few minutes.”
“I heard a few women talking before about it but they stopped when they realized I was listening. So, men are different there. I wonder how big Aoshi is. Can’t tell unless it’s hard, right?” Misao tried to remember if she’d ever seen a bulge in Aoshi’s pants. No, because she’d always been too shy to stare at that part of his anatomy. He would have severely scolded her if he’d noticed. That was something she didn’t need. “What is foreplay and what kind of positions have you tried? I heard Okina say that ladies only do something called missionary.”
“Then I’m no lady, though I haven’t tried everything. Missionary is when the man is on top of the woman and she’s on her back. It’s a simple position and good for the first time so it’s less painful for the woman. Lets her relax while she’s getting adjusted to the man’s girth. It can also be romantic because it allows you to kiss whomever you are with. I’ve tried several other positions though most of my lovers liked missionary also. Guess they all thought the same thing.” Only three of her lovers had done other positions with her. Two of them had been her last two. She preferred to be on top before missionary. It was the one time she enjoyed being in control of a situation.
“How do I explain foreplay to you? It’s what happens before the actual penetration. When you touch each other. The man touches you on the breast or down there. Or he uses his mouth to touch you in those certain spots.” Kagome couldn’t stop the laugh as Misao looked down the length of her own body. “Yes, even there. If the man is any good it feels damn good when he goes down there with his mouth. My guy had my legs shaking he was so good at it. You’ll see what I mean when Aoshi finally gets off his ass.”
“Kagome! I can’t imagine Aoshi doing something like that. I’ll be lucky if he even kisses me on the mouth much less anywhere else. He’s to into himself and his own problems to notice me. I don’t have what it takes to seduce a man or be sophisticated. I’m just me and that’s obviously not enough for him.” The admission made her sad because she knew it was true. She wasn’t the type of woman Aoshi would want to be with. He’d want someone like Megumi or Kagome, she was just someone annoying he’d helped raise.
“I think you are wrong. You are very special and are being too hard on yourself. I can’t remember enjoying traveling so much. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a good friend that I could connect with. True, you are lacking certain feminine qualities but that’s what makes you unique. No one wants someone boring and just like everyone else. I doubt your Aoshi is this type of person either. I’m sure he’s just being stubborn and has moral issues. He’ll get over it. Tell you what, while you are with me I’ll give you a few pointers on seduction. By the time you go home you’ll have Aoshi eating out of your hands.”
“This is never going to work. You might pull it off but I look, well just weird.” Misao looked down at the dark blue kimono, it was beautiful. Which meant it didn’t belong on her. The purple pattern went with the obi and ribbons in her hair. She’d always kept her hair up on most occasions, this made her feel odd. Nameko had spent hours on both of them, preparing them for the evening. Kagome had tracked her target down to this affair. So she was going along to help out. While the maid was waiting at the edge of town with the horses in case things went wrong. “How are we going to get in? We don’t exactly have an invitation.”
“Just act cool and let me handle it. Walk beside me and smile, it’ll be easy.” Kagome nervously patted down the front of the slick black material. She tried not to let the anxiety show or Misao wouldn’t be able to go along with her. They were slowly strolling down the streets waiting for the right moment. A hand moved an errand strand of hair from her cheek as a carriage went pass. “That’s our cue, lets go. Just smile and move with me.” They made it to the steps as the couple being escorted from the carriage did. The gentleman was rather old but held onto the younger woman’s arm. Kagome almost cringed at imagining the two together, yet managed a large smile. “Oh my, you must tell me the name of your tailor. That shade of green looks absolutely splendid on you.”
“Why thank you, I was telling my husband what a wonderful artist he was but you know how men are.” The woman beamed at the compliment as the two girls fell in step beside her. It wasn’t very often that she found someone with similar taste. She could look at these two and see they were cut from the same cloth. She turned to continue speaking as her husband gave the uptight guard their invitation. “Have you ever heard of Tsebeko?” At both negative nods she smiled, “Let me tell you girls, if you ever get a trip to Tokyo you must look him up. The man is very skilled with his hands. Well worth the cost, if I do say so myself.”
“I’m sure, if that stunning piece is anything to go by.” Kagome almost jumped for joy when they kept walking into the double doors without anyone trying to stop them. The two guards inside the hall merely nodded at the group. The tension left as the married female kept chatting about the latest designs. Music filled the long hallway before they were escorted into a large room. The white plush carpet looked like snow. Someone had some money to have that in their ballroom. With a nod to the left Kagome decided it was time to break from their unknowing accomplices. “Well, we must be going. I see someone we must have a word with.”
“Of course, perhaps we can chat some more later.” She watched the two girls stroll off to the right. Pity, now the rest of her evening would be boring. All these other wives were usually uptight and bitches. Not to mention her husband would expect her to be at his side the whole time forcing her to be polite. He’d want to know about all the latest topics of government. “Very eloquent and refined ladies there, I should have gotten their names. Not everyday you find someone that isn’t a complete bore. Don’t you think so dear.”
“Whatever, oh there he is.” The man didn’t care for women’s fashions. A woman couldn’t seem to understand that there were more important things in life. Politics and government were more important that what color went well with your eyes. That was why men ruled the country and females didn’t. He maneuvered through the crowd until he reached his destination. “Good evening, Fujita Goro, just the man I was looking for.”
Saitou almost groaned when the man made his presence known. The annoying little peacock needed to go elsewhere, he wasn’t in the mood to be badgered. Nor did he feel like trying to keep the man’s wife from pawing all over him. He just needed to wait another half hour before he and Aoshi could leave the throng of party goers and begin exploring. The sooner they got those files back the sooner he could start searching again. “Evening, glad to see you and your lovely wife are doing well.”
“Why thank you Captain Goro. Pardon me but I’d like to go speak to that young lady again. Not everyday one meets someone interesting. Speaking of which, when are we going to meet your wife? Or is there a reason you keep her hidden?” She smiled saucily when the man stiffened. Everyone knew it was an arranged marriage and the man never stayed with her. “Poor thing, shame it is really.”
“Shut up, or I’ll let him throttle you right where you stand woman. Perhaps you are right and I should trade you in for that young lady that came in when we did. She didn’t seem to open her mouth that much. Shame it is, really dear. I’m sure he has his reasons for not bringing her along, he’s working keeping everyone here safe. It is not a social event for him. Don’t you dare be insulting by trying to imply he’s ashamed of his wife. If we all got what we wanted then we’d both be walking around with that beautiful girl on our arms. Now, go find something to do and let us men talk.”
Kagome pulled Misao over to a corner to get away from the crowd. How the hell did they expect people to breath with so much ass in one place? “Let’s get something to drink while we think on what to do.” Both girls went to the table and a waiter handed them a glass. Kagome almost cringed smelling the wine. “Sip, we don’t need to get drunk.” She almost frowned when the other woman came strolling up to them once more with a happy smile. “We got company.”
“Sorry, think I finally gave my husband the slip. You know how men are, all they want to do is talk about politics. I thought I’d come introduce myself, the name is Meena.” She extended her hand which the other girl shook and both introduced themselves. “Well, now that we’ve been properly introduced. I don’t mean to intrude but it’s so hard to find decent company at these things. Most of the men come to these things to discuss business and drag their poor wives along. These poor dears are so brain dead they don’t realize it’s torture.”
“So we see, none of them look too happy. Hard to be happy when you can’t fart without your company wiping their ass.” Misao slapped a hand over her mouth but it was too late. The offending words had already slipped out. It was true her and Kagome were rubbing elbows due to lack of space. She knew she should have kept her mouth shut. She didn’t know how to deal with this type of social gathering.
Deep laughter filled the air as the woman leaned forward. “Oh my, a woman after my own heart. Oh you two are a rare find, I knew it the moment you spoke. You must come to visit me after tonight. It’s so hard being married to a government official. All our friends are his uptight associates and their wives. I needed that laugh. My husband is already over there discussing business. I really can’t stand that Captain Goro, stuffy man. Though he looks like he’d be a real animal in bed.” She waved her hand seeing her husband looking in their direction. “Oh my, now I didn’t see that one earlier. Who is that nice piece of man flesh standing with him? Girls have you ever seen something so nice? Oh, here they come. I’ll have to introduce you girls to my husband and his companions.”
Misao cringed at the name, no this couldn’t be happening. Kagome also tensed beside her suddenly. She slowly turned her head in the direction but quickly snapped it back towards the waving woman. She suddenly wished she had her daggers so she could stop the woman from beckoning the men over. Figures if Saitou was here that Aoshi was with him. She didn’t want to know why, she just wanted to disappear. “Um, I don’t feel too good. Kagome mind escorting me to get some fresh air?”
“You got it.” Kagome nodded at the woman promising to be right back. Meena agreed to hold the men there until they got back. Which as far as Kagome was concerned would be until hell froze over. She didn’t recognize the name but the face was one she’d never forget. What was he doing in Kyoto? The other tall man she remembered from the day on the street, though she’d never gotten his name. Misao was a complete lifesaver, had she noticed the fear? “We’ll be right back.”
“Yes, she looks pale. Some fresh air will do her some good and it’s completely understandable with all these people. Try to hurry though or I’ll die from boredom unless I can get that young man to notice just how adorable I am.” Meena was happy to see them go for now as the men trailed over. She’d yet to meet the new male and couldn’t wait to do so. If those two were around they wouldn’t pay attention to her. She was nice looking for someone her age but those two made her look like homemade bread. The three men stopped in front of her letting her look the new one over. He was definitely tall and handsome, was he married? “There you are dear but I’m afraid Misao needed some fresh air. The girl looked ready to faint. Why don’t you introduce me to your new friend.”
“Misao? Interesting, what did this girl look like?” Saitou placed a hand lightly on Aoshi’s elbow stopping him from leaving. They had to make sure it was the right girl before he left his post to chase her down. The name wasn’t that average but if they thought about it this wasn’t the type of place the girl usually could be found. “Sorry for asking, we know someone by that name. Just wondering if it’s the same girl.”
“Oh, that must be the girl’s name. Now that one is a real looker, though the other wasn’t that bad either. Shame all women don’t look like that. She had long raven hair, pinned high with some curls placed along the sides. Face of an angel and a smile to match. Nice body on her too, though it all dulled compared to the startling blue eyes. Very nice looking young lady there.” Oh, yeah he could remember the woman just fine. He cringed when his wife turned a condemning look in his direction.
“No, that isn’t Misao. That was Kagome, since you remember her so vividly. Misao’s hair isn’t as dark and she looks younger, very slim girl but attractive.” Meena was making note to let her husband know how displeased she was later. So much for the show of indifference! “But in either case both girls went outside for some fresh air.”
“And that’s where we’ll be heading.” Saitou didn’t bother to excuse himself and neither did Aoshi. “I’m going to throttle someone if it’s them. What do you think the chance of them being together are?” He pushed pass the group of males standing in the way. One of them made to argue but quickly quieted seeing who it was that had rudely shoved him. Saitou noticed that Aoshi was already closing in on the double doors. “Dammit move it.”
Aoshi stopped in the hallway to look around causing Saitou to bump into him from behind. “Watch it, there.” He pointed to the two females exiting through the main doors. His frown deepened when one of them turned around. His breath caught recognizing the face staring back at him. It was Misao but it wasn’t, he heard Saitou swear as the door shut behind them. It was Misao and from the way Saitou was now running it had to be Kagome as well.
Kagome almost laughed at the stares they were receiving as they ran. They had the kimonos hiked up to their waist enabling them to move fast. She heard Saitou calling her name close behind. Luckily, she was faster as well as Misao plus they had an escape route mapped out. As they neared the edge of the street she whistled loudly. The sound of hoofs came echoing down the street. Misao seemed just as anxious to leave and she now knew why, the name Aoshi had escaped the girl’s lips. This wasn’t how she’d been expecting to leave but shit happened. Her trusty maid came to a halt with the horses and scoffed.
“Running from the males I see, I told you they were nothing but trouble. It’s that Captain again, should I run him over?” Nameko laughed as the girl’s climbed upon their rides. She’d figured something might go wrong and had been waiting close by. Fear was something she didn’t have since her mistress had stolen her a firearm before leaving their previous lifestyle. If someone bothered her she’d shoot the bastard.
“No, lets just get out of here.” Kagome chuckled as the men neared. She’d have to catch up with the youkai some other day, tonight was no longer an option. Nameko stuck her nose in the air as Saitou yelled demanding that she not move an inch. Did the man really think she was going to sit here and wait for him to arrest her? Not in this lifetime, “I don’t think so.” Frowning she extended her middle finger causing the other two women to laugh. “What an ass,” she kicked her horse into motion.
Misao gave Aoshi would last look and gave a mocking wave before doing the same. She could hear the anger in his voice as she rode off. No matter how fast the two were, they wouldn’t be able to catch them now. Nameko took the rear as they rode off into the night. It was a wasted effort but they’d find this guy Kagome was looking for later. It was better than dealing with Aoshi, plus Kagome had a few answers to give. How did she know Saitou, why had the man demanded that she not leave? He’d come running after her too. It was so unlike the cold man she knew, so what was going on? Before tonight was over she’d have her answers.
Aoshi swore as the horses took the trio of females further away. They’d have to get their own if they wanted to catch up. “Fuck!” Just how had those two managed to team up? What had they been doing at the party? So many questions roamed through his mind. He sighed when Saitou stopped to light a cigarette as the man gazed into the blackness. “Well, I guess now we know that we’ll continue our search after we find the files, together. I just want to say one thing before we head back. Delicate, my ass.”
