.There's a new drug out called 'bourne' that enables men to get pregnant, but that's not all it does, it also kills them. Yunho and Yoochun are on the case to stop this deadly drug before it gets anymore out of hand, and spreads throughout Asia.
author's note: this chapter is shorter than my others because it's a two-parter. one because i got writer's block toward the end and two because it would have been too long if i'd added everything i wanted to. part two will be a lot longer than this one though. things are still a bit slow, but they should pick up in part two.
forward: i know a couple of people REALLY dislike the onslaught of characters, but i wouldn't introduce them or include them in the story if they didn't play at least some part, even a small one. i won't say this is the end of me adding new characters, or re-introducing already introduced characters. i write what i feel needs to be written, even if that means a lot of characters or the story is progressing too slow, though i think it's progressing a bit quickly for me to only be on chapter nine. anyway these characters are important to the story so please bare with me and try to enjoy the story the best you can. i understand that a lot of characters can be taxing (it's really hard to keep up with more than a handful), but they are a part of the plot. I will try to limit them though. Enjoy!
.XI, PART I
Yeseob didn't think it was possible to be this soul-crushingly afraid outside of a horror movie or thriller, but he could honestly say now that he had never been more afraid in his life than he was right now. The same officers he had looked up to and admired were about to splatter his brain all over the inside of the room he was being held in. Had he chose the wrong profession in life? Had he been wrong to believe that the police stood for justice and the people? He figured he had and the realization was more disheartening then he could have ever thought it possible to be. It was on par with your first love breaking your heart, then running away with the pieces.
The tears that had filled his eyes spilled over as he choked on another sob. He was about to die in the most horrible way and at only twenty-one. Life sure had a way of screwing you over in the end.
"Leave," Yeseob heard Hyunjoong say to Taecyeon, his voice full of something that Yeseob dared not believe in. Taecyeon gave him a confused stare.
"Hyunjoong-shi?" Hyunjoong looked at him, his eyes like steel.
"I said leave; I don't want you to be a part of this. Go get In Young and head back to the station. I'll meet the two of you there."
"How are you going to dispose of the body by yourself?"
"If I have to tell you to leave again Taecyeon it's going to be your brain matter on the wall instead of his, am I understood?"
Taecyeon blanched a bit and then nodded his head sharply, obviously angry. He glared over at Yeseob who still had his eyes closed waiting for the bullet to pierce his skull and end him. Taecyeon left out the room after that closing the door even harder than In Young had. Hyunjoong lowered his gun, and then walked over to his window pulling the shades to the side to stare out into the parking lot below.
Hyunjoong waited until the two had pulled off before turning back to the boy tied to the chair and shouting at him to open his eyes.
"I'm not going to kill you not if you cooperate with me."
Yeseob opened his eyes, too relieved that he wasn't going to be shot in the head and killed, at least not yet anyway. It still didn't make him any less scared though, and he observed Hyunjoong with wary eyes.
"Why aren't you going to kill me? And why should I cooperate with you?"
"Because I don't want to kill you, so don't give me a reason to. It would also be in your best interest to cooperate with me, seeing as how I'm the one with the gun."
He does have a point... Yeseob thought to him-self. He sniffed and looked off to the side. "What's going on?" He asked softly, but loud enough for Hyunjoong to catch it. He tucked his gun away and sighed.
"This has become a nightmare... what the hell have I gotten myself into?" Hyunjoong asked him-self. "Are you by any chance, homosexual?"
Yeseob's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. Why would he ask him something like that? If he said yes would he kill him? Well, he wasn't, but just saying if he was.
"I don't have anything against gay people, but I'm not like that. I mean I have gay friends that I'm really close to, but I don't think about them in that way."
"You don't know how happy I am to hear that, it hasn't been a sadder time to be a closet fag in Korea than it is now."
"What are you talking about? It's never been a good time to be a closest... gay in Korea."
Hyunjoong fixed him with a bland stare. "How are we to know who’s a fairy and who isn't, by just looking at them? We tend to be quite friendly with each other in general, but does that mean we're gay? No. They say there are no gays in Korea, but that has got to be the most laughable thing I've ever heard of."
Yeseob couldn't even begin to understand where the older man was going with this. "I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you're talking about. Are you a homophobe or something?"
"Is it that obvious?" He almost smirked. Yeseob’s mouth thinned. He didn't know whether the other was trying to be funny or not. One of his closest friends, Mir, was homosexual, so if he was trying to be funny, he'd failed. "I'm not really, a lot of my friends are though and you’d be surprised at how many men are secretly gay on this side of the world. It's really quite funny; my best-friend is gay or.... at least he was my best-friend."
Yeseob's eyebrows drew inward. Hyunjoong had a faraway look on his face as he stared over Yeseob's shoulder at something only he could see.
"I did this without thinking of the consequences, without thinking at all. If he ever finds out I hope he can forgive me."
Hyunjoong's eyes suddenly filled with tears and he locked eyes with Yeseob whose breath caught in his throat at how open the anguish was on the other man's face. He was normally so put together and stoic. "I'm a terrible friend, the absolute worst."
Jaejoong sat down his features tired, one arm thrown over his stomach. Yunho sat down beside him placing a hand over Jaejoong's and wrapping his free arm around him when Jaejoong laid his head on his shoulder.
"Are you okay Jae? I can take you home; I think you need to rest." Jaejoong shook his head.
"I can't leave Changmin-ah."
"He won't be alone, Kyuhyun-ah is going to stay here with him and I'll be coming back too. You should rest and come back when you aren't so emotionally strained; this isn't good for the baby Jae."
"I know..." Jaejoong sighed. "But I'll be fine. I don't want to leave until I know for sure he's all right."
Yunho could only nod and squeeze his shoulder. There had been a splash of reporters outside the hospital, who'd run at him asking him questions about Changmin. Jaejoong had gone off on them, Kyuhyun pushing them back so that the three of them could get inside the hospital as quickly as possible.
What the hell were they doing here? And how did they know about the drug (or of it) as well as what it was doing to the male’s unfortunate enough to come in contact with it. Yunho called Yoochun's phone, the other man answering on the second ring.
"Finally," Yoochun breathed into the receiver. "I've been trying to get in contact with you since last night, the chief has too."
"I know I saw all your missed phone calls and texts, I was going to call him next, but I wanted to check in with you to let you know what was going on." Yunho rubbed at his tired eyes. "First off I'm at the hospital now, Changmin.... he tried to kill him-self. He's in stable condition right now, but Jae and I are going to hang behind for a while to make sure. How's Junsu?"
"Wait," Yoochun began. "Changmin-ah tried to kill him-self? So, he's..."
"Yes, he's pregnant." There was a heavy silence. "How is Junsu?" Yunho asked again, wanting to change the subject.
"He's fine, for the moment anyway. He's eating right now. They were going to let him out, but have decided to keep him for another day since they're worried he might have a relapse especially since they've been getting a lot of similar cases and I'm going to be honest Yunho, I don't think they're just isolated to the station anymore, I think it's been filtered out."
Yunho sat up a little, but not by much. He glanced down at Jaejoong to find that he had fallen asleep, so he tried to keep as much of the panic that he felt out of his voice and prayed that the sound of his heart trying to beat itself out of his rib-cage didn't wake his lover.
"I haven't been able to look into it as much as I would like, but I just have a feeling. Also, we might have made a huge break in the case with the last person I’d ever have suspected."
Yunho had really hated waking Jaejoong up, but when Yoochun had told him who their high profile witness was; he really didn't have much of a choice. Rain's wife? It seemed both ridiculous and bizarrely plausible at the same time. He made sure they let Kyuhyun know where they were going and Yunho made it very clear that whatever happened with Changmin, even if he coughed wrong he was to call them immediately. He pushed the door open to Junsu's room an Jaejoong rushed to his friend's side, wrapping the younger man into a fierce hug.
Hyori was sitting of to the side in a chair, looking as if someone had drugged her. Yunho could only stare at her (and the handcuffs on her dainty wrists) in shock. Yoochun stood up from the bed and walked over to him.
"I told you it was something you were going to have to see to believe. I talked briefly with the nurse who came in here to check on Junsu-ie, she told me that a large number of young males were being admitted to the hospital and not just this one either, but a few others in the area as well. It's purely coincidence that we ended up at the same one."
Yunho nodded his head dumbly, still trying to get over his shock.
"What is her connection to the case?"
"Hyori says she's the reason why Rain-shi's lover is dead; did you know he was bi-sexual?"
"I think you just blew my mind." Yoochun almost smiled.
"I know. Anyway, she says she's the reason. I haven't grilled her on the details yet since chief wants to take her down to the station for questioning, but if what she is saying is true, through her testimony we may just be able to find out the identity of the mastermind and close this case."
"I'm almost afraid to know who it is, to be honest." Yunho admitted looking over at Jaejoong and Junsu, who were engaged in a rather serious conversation with one another. Yunho debated on leaving Jaejoong in here, Junsu would probably appreciate the company.
"So, where is the chief? Is he still here?"
Yoochun opened his mouth to tell him that he didn't know, but paused as his eyes locked onto something or someone behind Yunho. Yunho turned around and was a bit surprised to see Rain standing there looking uncharacteristically, like shit.
"Yunho, you're here, that's good." He greeted them, his tone a bit slow. Yunho narrowed his eyes.
"Chief, are you drunk?"
"I'm not a light-weight," Rain barked, offended. "I just needed something to take off the edge. I came to get Yoochun, but since you're here, you come too."
Yoochun had motioned for Hyori to stand, which she did on legs so shaky Yoochun just barely managed to catch her in time.
"Are you okay?" He asked against her hair as she leaned her head against his chest tiredly.
"... no, but thank you for catching me." Hyori stood up, flipping her bangs out of her eyes. Yoochun looked over his shoulder at Junsu who was looking back up at him.
"I'll be back Junsu-ah, if anything happens, call me."
"You too Jae," Yunho seconded walking over to his boyfriend and placing his hand on the nape of Jaejoong's back. "Unless you want me to take you home?"
Jaejoong shook his head. "No, I'll just stay here, I'm too worried to go home and I don't want to be by myself." Yunho kissed his forehead before he turned away to follow Rain out the room, Hyori and Yoochun not too far behind.
"I think you should explain everything to me first, if it's an unknown drug how do you expect me to be able to find anything on it?" Dongwoo asked, adjusting his glasses. Baro rolled his eyes and sat on the vacant chair in front of him backwards.
"It's what hyung told me to do, so since you're like a computer whiz and everything I thought you'd be the best man to come to. I guess I was wrong."
Dongwoo just stared at him, one eyebrow arched. "Are you going to tell me what your case is about or not? With a clearer picture I just may be able to help you."
Baro stared back at him, his heart suddenly lodging in his throat. After Yunho had dismissed him, he didn’t go to Gypsy to try to find out if the drug was being distributed there. He instead went home if only to figure out what sort of action he was supposed to take. Yes, he could go to club Gypsy and then what? He couldn't just go up to random people and ask them if they were gay, had a gay lover, had banged them in the past year and were they experiencing pregnancy-like symptons? He also didn't think: 'Are you a top or bottom?' Would go over well either.
Yunho's orders had been so vague. How the hell was he supposed to find out information on the internet, if no one even knew such a drug existed? It was like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. Needless to say he'd barely gotten any sleep and was a bit grumpy at Dongwoo's lack of help.
"Don't think I'm being weird or anything, but I have to ask you this."
"It depends on what you ask me, but okay."
"Are you gay?" The sudden awkward silence was almost comical, but this wasn't a laughing matter, this was something Baro had to know.
"Why do you want to know that?"
"Because it's what this entire case is based around, and I'm going to warn you it’s a pretty freaky case, like something out of that foreign TV show... The X-Files. It is just that bizarre."
Dongwoo looked oddly interested, but also a bit hesitant at the same time. "Well, I haven't gotten around to telling you, but I am seeing someone who isn't female."
"Have you two had sex?" Dongwoo's cheeks blazed and he gave Baro a horrified look. "Oh, grow up, how old you?"
"I... well, no. This is weird. We haven't been seeing each other for that long, only a year and we haven't really gotten around to that yet."
"Are you a virgin?"
"Can we get to the point? What do those two things have to do with the drug case you're on?" Baro finally told him, and by the end of his explanation Dongwoo's skin was as pale as freshly fallen snow.
"I know it sounds crazy, impossible, but it's true. So, that's why I need your help. I don't... really want to do this by myself."
Dongwoo nodded his head and then looked away. "So, besides the internet, what else were you told to do, to find out about this drug, what is it called?"
"'Bourne' and I was also told to go to club Gypsy to see if it was being distributed through other means."
The look on Dongwoo's face as he stared back at him was a bit disturbed, but he also looked determined at the same time. "I don't work for the police or anything, but since I'm going to school to become a doctor, I want to know more about this, especially in how it works to accomplish a feat as great as making another man pregnant." He stood up, his hands were shaking. "I've made up my mind, I'm going to go with you."
"What?" Baro’s brow furrowed. "To the club, But you hate stuff like that."
"Yea, but this is different, there's a purpose involved and it makes sense that he would want to you to investigate a club, it would be so easy to distribute a drug like this in one of them. No one would even know." They exchanged fearful looks. "But I don't think we should go to Gypsy, it's too obvious. If they're targeting gays as you say they are, wouldn't they do it at a gay club?"
"Isn't that obvious too?"
"Yes, but we'll be more likely to find someone who knows something about this drug, especially if we go undercover as a couple."
Baro smirked. "Are you sure you want to be a doctor?"
"I actually wanted to be a teacher, but that's not important." Dongwoo smiled back at him, a strained, brittle smile. He was excited to finally be of use to someone (people always saw him as that nerdy, brainy, smily, too-nice guy), but at the same time he was also a bit scared, a thrilling type of scared, that could possibly get him and Baro killed. "So, what do you say?"
"I say we're going to have to work on the whole gay couple thing, since I'm, you know, straight."
