Face it Blair betrayal is in your nature - Serena (Gossip Girl S2.E18 “The Age of Dissonance”)
Dan walked around UES after leaving St Jude's trying to clear his head after the day's events. He couldn't believe that he had been so wrong about Rachel; he couldn't believe he had been incredibly stupid.
He's walk took him past the Palace; a solitary figure caught his attention as he looked through the glass window. It was Blair, sitting at the bar, lost in thought whilst stirring her martini absentmindedly.
A surge of guilt coursed through him. He couldn't help feeling that it was his fault that she had lost everything; all because he couldn't keep his mouth (or trousers) shut.
He contemplated going in and wondered if he was in the mood for Blair's special brand of tongue lashing after everything that had occurred that day. He reckoned he deserved anything she lashed at him and walked into the palace in trepidation.
As he made his way towards her, he faltered, but decided to forge forward.
He stood behind her, hands in pocket whilst he cleared his throat nervously. Blair turned looking him up and down with irritation.
"Great! Serena sent the calvary! ", she said snidely whilst rolling her eyes.
"Serena didn't send me!" he stuttered.
"Then why the hell are you here Humphrey?"
With a bit more confidence he leaned on the bar facing her.
"For what it's worth, I'm sorry Blair. If…If..I hadn't opened my big mouth to Rachel then…"
"No need to say sorry Humphrey, if Miss Carr hadn't told Gossip Girl, someone else would have." she interjected.
"After all everyone hates me and betrayal is in my nature; so I was bound to get my comeuppance at some point."
"Hate…hate is such a…such a strong word; I would say…I would say people feared you."
"Flattery wont get you anywhere with me Humphrey", she said with wryly with what could be likened to a half smile on her face.
Dan returned her smile.
"Are you going to smile at me like a goof all night or join me."
He took the seat next to hers and ordered. They passed the night in silent companionship drowning away their sorrows.
As the night wore on, the silent companionship changed course and the atmosphere changed to a merry one as the alcohol dulled their senses. Giggles and peals of laughter could be heard from where they sat as Dan Humphrey gesticulated and made animated faces as he regaled Blair Waldorf with some of his stories and anecdotes on the UES.
At some point there was a squeal of "Humphrey" followed by a weak slap on the wrist.
Bar stool moved closer to bar stool, breaths mingled as their faces moved closer.
She threw caution to the wind and closed the gap between them with a kiss.
