Like a glutton for punishment I deigned to watch an episode of GG this season. Needless to say I'm going back into hibernation.
The episode was meh! However, was better than the last 5 episodes of Season 4, therefore I'll give it a 6/10.
The Good
1. This episode sits well as a season finale and should have been the Season 4 finale. It brought their individual stories to an end/conclusion yet an opening for new beginning. Therefore would have been a good method of implementing character development and new plots for the following season. I don't know if I'm making sense.
2. The Dan and Blair's kiss was definitely Blair's day dream and not entirely the book. Dan is something she would like to explore but is too ashamed to. After all, Humphreys' are not escort material.
The Bad
1. I don't think they handled the inside story well and I felt that there were a lot of holes and made Dan's view on everyone extremely harsh. The fact that he couldn't see that Serena was becoming a different person during and after their relationship and only saw her as a beautiful glamourous leggy blond, who was flightily, a party girl and got her way easily, is a bit shallow and one dimensional.
2. Don't get me started on Rufus's character, a washed up has been who marries for money and becomes a house husband? Again shall and one dimensional
Yes their characters are like what said (except the bit about Rufus marrying for money) but they also embody other fine qualities I wished Dylan/Dan went there or at least said Dad/Serena I also said x, y and z about your characters or I'm sorry for portraying you this way; this book was published without my permission by Vanessa!
I think Serena was right in calling him out on it; it may not have been high on the list as Blair's, it was still an important issue to address. Dan's response to Serena was just idiotic. Gosh, I hate to say this but maybe the chair fans have a point when they said that he may be putting Blair on a pedestal. When he put Serena on a pedestal she was the heroine in his stories (Victorine to his Manet). We don't know whether Blair is the heroine in this satire but she doesn't seem to be the villain.
3. Serena automatically assuming she was portrayed positively without reading the book. That was arrogant but then again you wouldn't perceive/think that a loved one could/would be brutal about you in a book, so I give her a pass. However, she was a bit patronizing to Blair and it was funny seeing the shoe on the other foot. No one wants to be the villain eh S!
The Ugly
1. Chuck talking to Louis was so contrived and directly out of Season 2 i.e. where Chuck said exactly the same thing to Nate outside that hotel. I wont be surprised if like Season 2, Louis and Blair break up and she ends up with Chuck and lo and behold the baby is also Chuck's and they all leave happily ever after.
2. Blair telling Louis she never lied to him. Pourquoi?
The Missed
1.One portrayal I was eager to see from "Inside" was Lily's. I bet it would have been cutting (I'm basing this on Dan's observations of Lily in Season 1).
2. Dorota's thoughts on the book.
3. More on how Blair's portrayal. This kiss/sex gave us no insight to how Dan really saw Blair. The only character summarisations we had were Rufus and Sabrina.
