Please don't blame yourself that the cost of an annual checkup is so high. We know that health care costs in America have been driven artificially high compared to the costs of similar care in other countries.

A person should be able to verify the state of her health on a regular basis without feeling guilty about it.

Your assessment of the health care industry is right on. But insurance is designed to spread the risks and the costs, so don't feel guilty about the money involved. Think of it as preventative care. I'm glad you're healthy and don't need fancy medicines, but you're in the minority.
