Chasewater & Brownhills

Jul 30, 2008 04:31

Cut'n'pasted from my comment to peacherific, since it's taken me days to get this lot sorted and uploaded, and I still don't even have as much as I want up there - yet I don't wanna lose it.

Chasewater Wildlife Group's site has "information about the wildlife of biodiversity-rich Chasewater, Cuckoo Bank and surrounding areas of south Staff"s, however, I tend to end up there a lot because they have five .pdfs that I think are bloody marvellous. They're approximately half way down the page, on the right-hand side, under the title "A chronology of 2,500 years History of Chasewater." Put together by Graham Evans, it contains five volumes:A bit before our time but Chasewater Photos.

Not a brilliant pic, but The Forest of Mercia Innovation Centre at Chasewater.

Google Maps links.

Dunno if you'll be able to recognise that weird looking blob in the middle of the island, but it's that weird thing we used to climb over, and was like weird branches, but made of stone.

This used to be the arcade and ice-cream stall, but it's now the Rangers' hut.

As you can see, the boating lake's still there, but the bright blue paddling pool's gone, as has the fountains and toilets. They've been replaced by the Innovation Centre *spit*

This is the saddest part IMO - the go-kart track, the grey hills alongside it, and the big long field next to them are all gone, and have been replaced with a motorway (the BNRR/M6 Toll). :(

On the +side however, all the back end's (Sandy Bay end) now been opened up. :)

There's also more Chasewater stuff at my YouTube page, only if you wanna watch There Used To Be Hills Here, you'll have to turn your head on its side cause I thought I'd righted it up, but it looks like I hadn't.

Brownhills now, rather than Chasewater specific.
