Character name: Testament
Fandom: Guilty Gear
Timeline: Post Midnight Carnival, Before Accent Core
Age: 70+
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Testament is a Gear, meaning he is a being that has had magic fused to them on a genetic level, making it part of their very DNA. This allows him extraordinary magical output as well as enhanced physical abilities and durability. His magic usually manifests in the form of summoning magic, using his enhanced blood to form pacts with supernatural creatures both of his world and "others". Most notable of which is familiar, Succubus. She is, in actuality, a succubus that spends most of her time in the form of a Raven that rests on his shoulder.
How would they use their abilities?:
Testament, in spite of his nature in the first GG game, fears violence. He will only use it to protect others. But in that case, he can become frighteningly aggressive. It's best to leave him alone.

Succubus Sprites Testament is a tall, lean man with a slightly feminine shape to him. His clothes are, seemingly, remnants of an old Sacred Order uniform, but for the most part they look like women's clothing. Testament himself doesn't seem to give any fucks what this might imply. Succubus is normally a raven with a silver collar, but she can transform into her actual form as seen in the sprites.
Background/Personality:
Originally developed as a means of artificially stimulating evolution within the human race, Gears quickly became more widely utilized as biological weapons. Just like with nuclear arms in the past, each nation assembled small armies of Gears in order to "protect" themselves from war with other nations. This, however, proved to be a disastrous mistake for the entirety of mankind. One of the first Gears ever created, a woman by the name of Justice, chose to defy the orders of man. She was, of course, a Command-Type gear and used her ability to dominate the will of other Gears to turn her race against the rest of the world, thus starting a "Crusade" that would last for over 100 years.
70 years before the GG games begin, a soldier named Kliff Undersn put forth a proposal to the United Nations that in order to properly face the Gear threat, he'd need to assemble a force of human magicians and warriors that could fight the Gears on an equal level. This was granted and so the Holy Knights of the Sacred Order, aka the Sekishidan, was formed. One of the early recruits to the Order was Kliff's adopted son, whos name we still do not know (I headcanon that his name is Tess Undersn because I am hurhurcreativehurhur). It soon became apparent that this son was just as much a proud warrior as his adopted father, and earned the nickname "The Black Knight". However, he soon became frustrated with his inability to surpass or even keep up with Kliff. Desperate in seeking power and approval from his father, this lad was approached by the mysterious Post War Administration Bureau. Their offer turned out to be transforming him into a humanoid-type Gear...which of course put him under the influence of Justice's command. He betrayed the Knights and fought alongside Justice.
During this time, Testament became known ad feared as the "Dread Gear". His scythe wielding abilities were simply amazing and his Summon Magic became twisted and dark. He now specialized in using poison and blood based attacks, as well as forming contracts with various creatures such as the Hitomi tree demons, a small gear called the EXE Beast, and his servant, Succubus. Almost all of the Knights feared him to the point of being unable to fight back...save for the young lad that replaced his father as commander, Ky Kiske, as well as a brash soldier by the name of Sol Badguy. Years after Justice had fallen and Testament used a tournament in order to take fallen warriors as human sacrifices and resurrect Justice, those same two people would defeat him. But not before he killed the source of all his angst, his adopted father Kliff Undersn.
Testament would, by some miracle, survive the Missing Link incident, however. He awoke in a forest and met a young girl...a Command-type Gear by the name of Dizzy...They formed a strong connection over a period of time, and Testament soon began to look after Dizzy as a younger sister. He would force himself to become stronger and fully master his Gear powers as well as other dark magics in order to protect her from the cruel world that wanted her death purely because she was a Gear. Dizzy became his precious one, and he had finally found the strength that he had been seeking for seven long decades.
In that time, Testament developed an almost phobia-like fear of violence. This also turned as a bitterness towards humanity that was different than the one he previously had. Unlike most Gears of his time, Testament now looked down upon humans because of their war-like and destructive ways. He and Dizzy often found themselves caring for war orphans that had wandered into the Sacred Place, fostering a love for children that he still holds to this day.
That was, of course, until Discedo.
Testament's arrival in Discedo was tumultuous. He came just as a certain Walter Sullivan's mad designs for re-uniting with his mother had come to fruition, causing his beloved Dizzy to be damned. In his madness, he ripped out his own inhibitor chip and raided the Latimir building, where Walter was supposedly holed up in, though it had become monstrous and twisted by Walter's powers. The incident showed just how deeply back into his violent ways Testament could call if his family was threatened... it was a struggle that would stay with him the entirety of his tenure.
Testament's "family" began to expand. A brother in Shinjiro Aragaki, a sister in Nill, and a son in Bridget. He'd also made many other close, personal friends. His life was beginning to shape into something he could call his own, though he still had his own reservations about humanity and his nature as a "monster". Especially after he lost control of himself again, following an accident in which Shinjiro had killed Dizzy while trying to protect her from Dio Brando. This would carry on for some time, his constant fight to balance himself, his hatred of humanity, his fear of violence, and his existence as a living weapon of mass destruction.
It was during his final fight against Dio Brando, not as an avenger but as a protector of things he held dear, that he came to realize just who he was and how far he had come. He died in that battle, but he found himself returning to praises of being a "hero". It was the first time in his long life he had ever gotten that sort of response. He had felt, after so many years, that he could finally be redeemed in not only the eyes of his father, but to himself. Testament and Tess Undersn had finally become one person again. He began to let go of his resentment. It was a good step.
In this time he met a tengu named Haruka. The two felt a connection to one another given their similar perspectives on humanity and "monsters", as well as generally similar personalities. It wasn't long before they became lovers as well, Testament feeling his first strong connection of intimacy with another being.
Becoming more adjusted to his life, Testament became a sort of... domestic. He filled the father role to many stray children in the city, but some felt the need to tease him about being a "mother". It was fitting. He cooked, cleaned, sewed, and otherwise went about typical "motherly" things. To think the Dread Gear had become like that was pretty amazing. Still, he was happy... Though he still had trouble with racist attitudes towards Japanese, but this is just a general problem with the Guilty Gear world in general.
Of course he almost lost all of that the day Baiken arrived. Baiken's deep hatred for Gears and all things related to them was just as passionate as ever, and she came for his life immediately. Testament, almost as if to test his own growth as a person, gladly accepted the battle. And it was a rough one, where Testament was outmatched by the hunter in the end. In an odd twist of fate, his care for his family in Discedo was not something she could ignore. She showed him mercy, convinced that he was no longer the monster she knew back in her world. It was an odd moment of affirmation for Testament... one he still cherishes in spite of the pain he was in after the battle.
The last major aspect of Testament's life in Discedo was Kaoru. The quiet and nihilistic girl was the last stray he took in, and the one whom tested his progress the most. Every single step they took, she challenged him and his views. Not once did he falter. He stood by her no matter how convinced she was that he would abandon her. Her own life in Discedo was tumultuous and traumatic, mirroring his own in many ways. Eventually, their bond grew so much that Kaoru asked him to remove her chip... which he did. The end result was her placing Testament under her full mental control through her power. She had the same power over him that Justice had... and he will arrive on the Thor still under that influence.
Testament has always been something of a strange duck. His growth, both in canon and in Discedo, reflects that of a human seeking to go beyond his humanity, and then a "monster" seeking to consolidate his humanity with what he has become. It is a sort of tragic story, when one considers the trials Testament has endured to come this far. All in all he is still not completely mentally sound, but he's come very far.
Testament's major outlook in life is one of protecting that which is dear to him. Testament can ALMOST be described as a True Neutral, thinking not in terms of good and evil but rather what is right for himself and for his "family". In fact, he still firmly believes that "good" and "evil" are human concepts of morality designed to hold themselves superior to other creatures. Testament once believed that Gears would not bring about the fall of humans, but rather humans themselves with their dedication to polarized morality. He HAS revised this slightly... but he still doesn't like the concept.
All in all, both canon and Discedo have lead him into coming to terms with just who he is. Testament or Tess Undersn, or even both. It has been a long, hard journey for him. The quiet Dread Gear still has much to learn, even after all that's happened to him.
