Going along with the whole orphanage thing that everyone's talking about, surely there's some kind of wizarding orphanage for kids who are already confirmed wizards...otherwise it would be way too likely that some kid would just get fed up and try to curse someone. Of course, this is all just speculation, but still...I'm sure that Wizarding law provides for orphans who are adults in the magic world, but not in the Muggle world...oh well. I'll stop overanalyzing the thought processes of Plank-writers.

And just a Definite Fact about orphanages -

(quite apart from the one that Little Whinging is *NOT* a city)

(and that we call them children's homes nowadays, and have done since at least the seventies)

The authority's duty of care runs out when the child gets to 16 (which is also the age at which one's parents may legally kick one out). Not only would Lily not have to go to an orphanage, but they wouldn't take her in even if she begged and pled.

that's amazing. I'm glad I know that information, it's really interesting. I love some American HP Fanfic writers...I'm not saying there's anything wrong with us, but there's a select few who think they're the hottest things ever and they don't have a clue what's going on.
