When Hongki came dancing into the room Minhwan shared with Jaejin, there was something different about him. The youngest couldn’t put his finger on it and it wasn’t Hongki’s terrible dancing either because he did that a lot, Muse blasting from the stereo in the living area.
“Weren’t you out?” Jaejin asked, gathering his books and getting up from his bed because if Hongki decided to dance around in their room like the idiot he was, he’d be getting no study time and he had a test coming up so that was important.
“I was out~” Hongki sang, changing the lyrics to ‘plug in baby’ as he spoke along with the melody of the song. “But am back now~”
Jaejin rolled his eyes at that, shaking his head as he moved out of the room, as many books as he could carry piled up in his arms. Minhwan was still staring at Hongki, trying to figure out what exactly it was that had changed about the man.
“Hyung, did you cut your hair?” he tried, putting aside the magazine he had been reading (it had an interview with them in it and he had been smiling over it all day, much to Jaejin’s annoyance) and titled his head. No, that wasn’t it, he answered his own question, brow furrowing some as he realised Hongki probably hadn’t even heard him over the volume of the music.
Hongki let himself fall on top of Jaejin’s bed, crumpling the sheets and tossing them about, just to irritate the other man more. Minhwan caught sight of the other’s socks as the man swung his legs up in the air. Simple, blue matching socks, nothing wrong with that.
The song switched over into a ballad and Hongki stopped moving about, resting with his limbs sprawled all over the bed, looking up at the ceiling. His breathing came fast, as if that little dancing and singing had worn him out. There was something wrong with that.
“Hyung, what did you do today?” Minhwan decided upon asking, maybe Hongki would give an answer that cleared up all of this odd behaviour. He moved to the edge of the bed so he could touch his toes to the leg of the lead singer that hung off Jaejin’s bed.
Hongki continued to stare up at the ceiling for a while and Minhwan shifted on the bed impatiently, not made to sit still for long periods of time awaiting something simple as an answer to his question. Once Hongki did answer his voice was rather loud and Minhwan almost fell off his bed in shock.
“I had my first kiss from a girl today, Minnie-ah!” Hongki’s face was lit up by a huge smile that shone like a thousand bright suns. Minhwan wondered if kissing did that to people a lot. He decided to ask.
“Is that why you are smiling, Hyung?” he poked at the other’s leg again and Hongki sat up suddenly, face serious. He slid over to the side of the bed as well and faced Minhwan with an expression that he usually wore when he didn’t understand things.
“But, when I told Wonbin this, he wasn’t impressed at all.” He was ignoring Minhwan’s question, probably too caught up in his own thoughts to even realise the youngest member was actually in the room and asking him things.
Minhwan scowled for a moment at that, but then he remembered something and his face lit up. “Oh, of course not, he kissed, yesterday,” Minhwan said simply, answering Hongki’s sudden pensive expression with a smile.
“No, that’s not true; Wonbin had his first kiss a year ago. That can’t be it.” Minhwan was afraid that Hongki’s brain might explode because the way the man was frowning came across to him as if it really hurt. He didn’t want the older one to be in pain, so he quickly added;
“He had his first kiss with a boy yesterday.” That would certainly put Hongki at ease in some way. Kissing a boy was much more impressive than kissing a girl though, Minhwan thought and he glanced absently at the photograph Jaejin had up on his nightstand before he realised Hongki was staring at him incredulously.
“He… what!?” the older singer leaned forward, his knees pressing against Minhwan’s as he did so, nearly sliding off the edge of Jaejin’s bed. “You must be kidding me! I can’t believe it, he’s beat me to something, again. Again.” Hongki shook his head, looking down at his lap for a moment before staring up at Minhwan.
“It’s not too late,” he said suddenly, his voice having that crazy undertone Minhwan didn’t like very much and he distanced himself a bit from the older one, frowning slightly as Hongki continued to talk. “It’s not too late! I can still beat the others... Minhwan!” the youngest looked up, albeit seriously afraid of what was to come next. “I have to kiss you.”
Now, if Hongki thought of something he wanted to do, he’d use everything within his power to make sure it definitely happened. And even though Minhwan was stronger than Jaejin was, he wasn’t much stronger than the lead singer and so when Hongki practically knocked him back on the bed he couldn’t do much else but kick his legs about.
Minhwan’s mind didn’t get any time to register what happened really, but Hongki’s mouth was on his and the next moment his tongue was rubbing against his own and he realised that this was kissing, but he didn’t know whether it would have him smiling like Hongki had been smiling before.
It was over before Minhwan could respond properly anyway and Hongki stared down at him for several long seconds, and then dashed out of the room.
“Jonghun!” he heard Hongki’s voice through ‘unintended’ and buried his face in his pillow instead of listening to the man bragging about the things he had done that day. Kissing definitely did not make Minhwan as weird as Hongki, so in a way, he still hadn’t figured out what was wrong with the man.
Maybe he was just crazy. Minhwan settled for that thought.
