Title: First Kisses collection #2. Jaejoong/Junsu
Pairing: Jaejoong/Junsu
Rating: PG
Genre: general?
Summary:
Note: #2 in the collection, written for Mika, because I had to be an idiot and plan a month away. The collection will grow upcoming days, Request of a Lover is not dead. Check my post on that, might you have questions regarding that series. For now, enjoy my very first try at JaeSu. (Also; old version of Word has no proper spell check -_-)

Junsu is and probably will always be the only one in their midst who seems made for their profession. It can get kind of frustrating, the ease with which he holds a tone or the sheer simplicity of his displayed emotions on stage. Secretly, Jaejoong more than a little hates him for it, but then there’s the other Junsu, who is kind and gentle and loud and laughter adorned with sunshine dust, completely oblivious to the real world, who catches his heart and holds it in a grip too firm to be comfortable.

There’s no escaping it; Jaejoong’s apparent place in the middle of their line-up is merely an optical illusion. Truth is that said place has always been Junsu’s, for without him they would be nothing. Whether it concerns saving their asses when all of them have had a rough night and sing horribly out of tune or whether they’re all down and need some uncomplicated cheering up; Junsu is the one to bring it all and never asks for anything in return.

It’s tiring to see the younger singer protect his own emotions to the stage where he nearly breaks apart under them. They’ve all trained eyes and watch this phenomenon unfold day by day, know when he needs that extra pat on the back or those five seconds of eye-contact, but neither of them knows how to bring peace to his mind without offering it too obviously. Junsu would never accept it otherwise.

It doesn’t help that Junsu regards Jaejoong as his example the first couple of years. Wherever he goes, Jaejoong knows Junsu’s eyes are on him, though so incognito no one else seems to notice. When he holds a tune, Junsu holds it too, but longer and better and laced with an emotional range Jaejoong’s never heard of before. It doesn’t take him long to figure out that no, Junsu didn’t see him as his example; he regards him as a stepping stone.

Not that Junsu means any harm by it; he simply needs something or someone better at something in order to improve himself. He’s always done it like that and that perhaps is the long lost secret behind his success. It’s not all his own power and devotion, but it’s the combined effort of everyone around him, showing him bits and pieces of their talents which he twists and turns until he masters them. Junsu simply hates losing.

What’s more is that aside from singing, aside from harmonising and discussing their musical abilities and ideas, Jaejoong and Junsu have nothing to talk about. Jaejoong doesn’t want to be cruel, but he knows that if Junsu had been a normal boy he’d met on the street, he would’ve probably never associated with him. He also knows that this feeling is mutual and that it makes Junsu uncomfortable sometimes. Yet Junsu swallows and keeps it all in with a smile on his face so wide it has to be a fake.

Over the years, Jaejoong realises that he’s come to adore Junsu for things he would never look for in a person. He hadn’t known Junsu to be so easy-going, to be so aware of the things around him and still so able to focus on one thing in particular. With them, it comes so late nobody was ever expecting it to happen, but it’s warm in Okinawa and sprawled across his bed underneath the air-conditioning, Jaejoong accepts that maybe they’re friends and have been all along.

It’s as if Junsu feels Jaejoong has come to that conclusion finally and stops calling him ‘hyung’ without changing the pace of his words. They’re standing on the beach in the dead of night, sand between their toes and waves rolling in. Junsu catches the rhythm, imagines bongos playing in the background and grins over at Jaejoong. Jaejoong forgets how to breathe and makes a funny noise in the back of his throat instead.

Junsu breaks out in song. Jaejoong admires the other for being able to do so without feeling the need to sing perfect, without fearing there might be people listening in. Junsu’s entire life is made up of songs, sometimes mere melodies and sometimes deep heartfelt words. He moves closer to the other singer, takes his hand and laces their fingers together proudly whilst Junsu keeps singing, slightly off-beat and English. He doesn’t understand a word and he is not sure Junsu does, but he feels it nonetheless and it’s too honest a feeling to ignore.

As Junsu tugs on his hand, Jaejoong covers up his laughter with his other and lets the man drag him into the water. The waves roll up to his ankles and the crazy look in Junsu’s eyes betrays he’s having too much fun doing simple things like these. It’s moments like that which have Jaejoong wishing they could all be normal people for a change.

When the song ends in a minor falsetto, Jaejoong reaches out to catch Junsu’s other hand as well and meets the smiling singer’s face with a smile of his own. “Watch out for crabs,” he warns the man, a chuckle bubbling up in his stomach and Junsu catches on, laughs like there is no worry in the world. They laugh until there’s only breathless giggles left, faces close as those die out too.

‘Thank you,’ Jaejoong wants to say, but instead he leans in and presses a soft kiss to Junsu’s slightly parted lips. He feels the other tremble with the remains of laughter and perhaps something else, but he’s still thankful, so thankful Junsu’s never pushed him away before and doesn’t push him away then.

The kiss lingers longer than it’s supposed to do. Jaejoong hadn’t the intention for it to be more than a peck; a sign of affection for the other, but for the first time Junsu accepts the sentiment and allows him to indulge in it a little longer. Junsu kisses soft and slow, sweet and without boundaries; Jaejoong thinks, only for a moment or two, that he shouldn’t have expected any different. Junsu’s always been much more of a giver than a taker in the first place.

It ends when Junsu pulls away and presses their noses together with the same laughter as before. They don’t speak of it and Jaejoong knows that it’s not embarrassment but Junsu’s way of dealing with everything; he accepted the offer, but he’s never going to ask for it. It’ll be their little secret.
