It wasn't the movement that caught her eye; rather, it was the sudden lack of movement in the middle of the dance floor that made Tenten's eyes zero in on lanky Shino. She stifled a little giggle - it was also rude to spurt ginger ale, grenadine and orange juice on the bartender - and slid off her seat to push her way through the crowd. It was here that being a waitress came in handy; Tenten was well used to the dozens of minute movements required to find the easiest path to her target table. Or in this case, her target man. And good Lord, Shino really didn't take his glasses off. One of these days, she'd get him to do it, she decided. Second Resolution of the year ( ... )

He was still looking around, eyes peeled for the person he was meeting, when a different kind of movement caught his attention. Someone was making their way through the throng of dancing people, and though he couldn't immediately see her face at first, Shino had a good guess as to who it might be. While she was still a good distance off, she stepped into a break in the middle of the crowd, and he got the chance to admire her outfit from afar. She looked very good, admittedly, a sentiment that made Shino blink twice - no one would notice anyways. His eyes were what revealed his emotions, and those were covered up most all the time ( ... )

Dammit, she should have worn taller shoes. She hardly coasted the top of his shoulder. Mentally, she sighed and took his hand, holding it low so that she would be able to twist them through the crowd without losing him.

Tenten's fingers were a little warmer than Shino's she noticed when her fingers curled round his hand, while she took him back through the bouncing, gyrating dancers. She wasn't sure how they could hear the song, but the bass beat seemed to be giving them enough clue. Again, Tenten thanked whichever deity that listened to her for not giving her the rhythm for dancing to this, stuff. Her ears rang as they stepped off the dance floor, and then up through the rest of the people relaxing around the club.

By some stroke of good luck, whomever it had been sitting next to her at the corner of the bar had left, and a seat next to hers was open. Maybe this was the start of a luckier new year (but not for another few weeks, as far as her family and ninety-percent of Chinatown were concerned). "I'm glad you made it!" she said ( ... )

Ino had already made appearances at several parties (at her father's request) but this would be her last stop of the night. Was she getting old? How did people manage to party so hard? She had to change dresses three times because of people spilling shit on her and damn, her spiked silver heels looked gorgeous with her short purple silk dress but they hurt. They were going to have to come off by the end of the night. Someone was just going to have to carry her home and that was that.

She spotted Tenten and Shino--

Wait.

Tenten and Shino?

Huh.

Really, now? she thought and made her way over to the pair to investigate this more fully. Was this a date? If so, Ino would be happy to mosey away and let them have their space. Not before teasing Tenten a little first.

"Hey, kids!" Ino greeted.

"Hey, Ino!" Tenten said automatically, turning her head to greet her best friend with a smile... one that quickly turned into an expression of abject horror and surprise. Ino didn't go to the Paramount. She hadn't been to the Paramount. Tenten hadn't even---

---Oh oh, there it was. Tenten's mind slipped over the tiny nugget of information she'd left in her journal a day previous. If she hadn't been in a club, she would've slapped her cheeks in consternation at herself. That was a simple, stupid mistake -- not that she wasn't happy to see Ino! "Happy Almost-New Year!" Tenten recovered quickly with a brilliant smile.

Suddenly, she wished she had sunglasses on, too.

Shino, himself, was thankful for them. His shades hid the blunt surprise that flashed across his eyes at this new person that walked up. She had moved more gracefully through the crowds than Shino himself, but so had Tenten, and so he simply shrugged that off as a 'woman thing.' He swiveled in his chair a bit, turning his body just so, so that he could get a better look at the person his da-Tenten was talking to.

Not exactly the most social person in the world in the first place, the Aburame sunk back against the counter of the bar, elbows resting along the wood, and nodded once towards Ino, letting the girls talk. He was fine with this interruption - they had all night, after all - and settled for looking out into the crowd of dancing people to amuse himself for the time being.
