Shizune was perpetually nervous but more so today than usual. It wasn't that she didn't like Jiraiya (she did) and that she couldn't hold her alcohol (she could) but she remembered when she was just a mere massage therapist to the band and some wild parties which included her waking up in a kiddie pool wearing a bikini top, some guy's boxers, and Tsunade's boobs in her face. She was older now, more respectable, and had students who depended on her. She couldn't just-- just-- get caught up in this whole party business. Her job was to provide the coffee and donuts and to be the designated driver.
No drinking. No partying. None of that.
"Jiraiya, long time no see," Shizune greeted, putting down her coffee maker and bag of baked goods. "You're looking well." It always amazed her how good he and Tsunade managed to look at their age. She only hoped she looked that good... if she ever made it to middle age.
It felt strange to be at school sans white coat but it wasn't terrible. Just... odd.
"Shizune!" Jiraiya saw the woman walk in, and got up from his armchair to go over and greet her. "It's been too long," he said, grinning widely, and opening his arms to hug her. "You are too, you are indeed," he said, stepping back and taking a look at her. "But never fear, I'm staying for a while this time. I need a break from the LA scene. A nice, long break

Genma paused before entering the room, leaning one shoulder against the doorway and chewing lazily on a toothpick. The music wasn't something he'd heard before, though the trumpet player sounded vaguely familiar. Genma wasn't sure if he approved just yet. And as for the Legend in whose presence he was now permitted to bask, at first glance he lived up to the rumours - outwardly, at least. The rest would sort itself out in time; Genma was never in any hurry

"Jiraiya," he replied, getting up out of his chair and taking the other man's hand, firmly shaking it before letting it go. "Good to meet you; I've heard a little bit about the faculty I don't know yet, but it's nice to finally meet you in person." He laughed a little bit at the previous comment. "Yeah, I suppose we can let her off the hook with that. I just remember her from the old days, when it was hard to keep the bottle OUT of her hand."
He went over to the cupboard and got out a few glasses, seeing as Genma had procured a bottle of Jack's from somewhere. "Well, Temari's late with whatever she's bringing, but at least we have that. And I probably have a bottle or two of something lying around..." Setting the three glasses down on the table, he went to the lower one, and pulled out a bottle of Absolut as well, filling his own glass with that.
"Not quite as much turnout as I was hoping for, though," he said as he sat back down. "Anyways. What do you teach, Genma?"
There was probably a very good reason why Kurenai had decided to spend any length of time in the presence of a known drunken lech who was probably going to try and get her drunk and/or naked, but the closer she got to Jiraiya's office the harder it was to dredge said reason up. She sighed in resignation and paused just before the door. At least she wouldn't be dangerously alone with him.
As she finally entered she was somewhat surprised to note that Genma was already here. Shizune was prompt, as always, but Kurenai had sort of developed the theory that the male teachers at this school were all incapable of being punctual. Admittedly this was based mostly on the behaviour of the late Obito (and her mind still shuddered away from truly accepting that he was dead) and Kakashi, who were chronically late wherever possible, but she still felt somewhat justified in it
