I think perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of being a writer is all the people that you meet who also think they are writers. This is why I often try to nod and smile and be pleasant to my many friends who consider themselves writers, but are actually security guards, bank tellers, elementary school teachers, etc. They WANT to be a writer, but they really don't understand that it requires approximately the same amount of luck that it takes to be a hollywood star.

The sad part is some of them have real talent, but no drive to actually write, and some of them have plenty of pages written, but have no talent. Very few have both. And even they are still working day jobs.
