HP DAY 24: Any particular scene you wished would have been put in the movie but it wasn't?
I have already talked about the omission of the Maurader's from the films, and that is the most obvious and most hated crime the filmmakers have committed.
When it comes to adaptations people think in terms of scenes that were left out; what made the cut and what didn't. Over the past year and a half I've been making a special study of adaptations. Not only have I written one, but I've also watched/study several (both successful and unsuccessful) and considered how several new written material could be adapted. I have discovered that it's not about the scenes, it's about the characters, the emotional ties and character moments connected to plot arcs (meaning to say, why do the scenes exist to begin with), and the bare plot skeleton for the original text. I feel that the movie focused to much on this idea of scenes to the point where the script was edited down, leaving no bridges between the scenes. The movies are stark and lifeless, with things happening just to happen, and no true plot flow. You hardly feel attached to anything or anyone, because the risks, what is at stake is never properly defined on an emotional level to get the audience to care. And the only reason why they've gotten away with it for so long is because we, the book readers, fill in the gaps with our memories of the books, which can never be touched, but most certainly used.

But I know this question isn't asking about guest actors, so I will tell you which long-term Who actor is my favorite...
The easy answer would be David Tennant. The man is one of the best actors I've ever seen. He can change the energy of a scene on a dime, and have it be more than believable. However, I have a feeling that I'd enjoy hanging out with Matt Smith more. This probably has something to do with age difference, but it's not the only factor.
Then, of course, there's the whole saving series 5 thing, and the fact that I accepted him as The Doctor within a week of his casting announcement. If only, they'd give him better material, material that really pushed him allowing him to reach for the acting level that David was able to lend with RTD's writing.
