Merlin 3x01 & 3x02 The Tears of Uther Pendragon Parts 1 & 2
Remember how I "live blogged" Series 5 of Doctor Who earlier this year? Well, it's Fall now, which means it's time for Meeeerlin.
The Tears of Uther Pendragon Part 1
- Noooo Colin got a haircut. Nooooo. The long hair is superior, but I won't complain anymore becuase he still looks good.
- "I have no time for friends," Uther. HAHAHAHA Since when did you ever have friends?
- 1 YEAR. What is this this, the year of time lapses? (one pieeeeeeeeece come back)
- Look at all them red cloaks (yes red cloaks in Merlin are the equivalent of red shirts in Star Trek TOS).
- Different Darker Lighting. The shooting style is significantly different too; must be a new director, but I'm not sure if I like this new guy.
- Morgana, why can't anyone see that you are badacting right now, and that you are actually going to kill everyone.
- [Talking about Morgana] Evil face, Evil cloak.
- "The Moon! Enter Buffy!," me. And Morguese enters the screen.
- Arthur has nothing to do this episode but make fun of Merlin.
- There's fog, there's silhouette's, there's a person, THERE MUST BE ZOMBIES! [ten seconds later...] ZOMBIE! ... no, wait... IMAGE OF DEAD WIFE AS A DROWNED, BUT REANIMATED, CORPSE!
- SLYTHERIN CASTLE! There are green banners with snakes!
- He got stabbed, fell off the castle, and a day later he's still alive; BEST GUARD EVER.
- Why is that convenient bottle of poison half empty?!
- Merlin needs an invisibility cloak then I wouldn't have to worry about him getting caught and I'd have yet another correlation to HP through this show. Oh wait, wouldn't it be great if he got caught because he never actually does... AH! HE GOT CAUGHT!
- Giant Scorpions! Various people in the room watching with me: "Roll for initiative! Nooo! Roll higher!" Yes, I watch both Merlin and Doctor Who with members of my Dungeons and Dragons guild."
- Hey look, it's the Slytherin guys again. Wait a second, yellow/black banners. HUFFLEPUFF AND SLYTHERIN TOGETHER!
Overall, this episode wasn't a good one to start the season off with for newcomers. However, it does raise the drama bar for the rest of the season. However, I felt like it lacked the spark that seasons one and two had. I blame the director and Morgana's acting. After this two-parter everything should be all right again. I mean, if this is the worst episode of Merlin, then my show is still in very good hands.
The Tears of Uther Pendragon Part 1
- Morgana really is the weakest actor of the four; this evil happy smile is getting really old.
- Hello, Prisoner of Azkaban shot.
- And then the Slytherin and Hufflepuffa joined together and realized how powerful they'd become. Hmmm, the Gryffindors should team up with the Ravenclaws... but instead they're fighting them- wait just a second; they're all teamed-up and attacking the Gryffindors! "Watch the Gryffindors still win anyways." - Kate
- They call King Slytherin by his first name; Various people watching with me: "Wait, did he just say Severus?"
"No, it's "Cendric."
"Hmmm maybe, he's Cedric Diggory's Slytherin twin."
- Heeeey, Arthur is on the throne XD
- OMG Gwin has a scene, a shipping scene! Oh, and now she's gone. She can actually act, she needs more screen time.
- Every time there's a moon shot Morguese shows up because she's Buffy, and that's how Buffy starts, with a moon shrouded in cloud.
- [insert epic dnd conversation here about classes, more specifically relating the differences between Merlin and Morgana magic to Wizards, Warlocks and Sorcerer duel-classes.]
- Uther will probably die this season. They're prepping a lot with Arthur's character. Plus, Uther was completely depowered for once. He had hardly any lines, and Arthur was the one calling the shots. This is a huge change.
- And the orcs invade Helm's Deep. The Ravenclaws need to show up on horse's at sunrise on the 5h day.
- Merlin wants to reveal the secret soooo bad. "Hey Arthur, you're destined the be biggest and bestest King ever; a dragon told me so. And this whole time I've been saving your life so you can walk in your destiny. PS I'm a wizard, oh yeah, I'm a wizard... and a dragon lord."
- Aww crap there are ninjas in the orc army, and they've already broken in.
- Why is the duel-swordsman Slytherin King not fighting?
- Yay, Harryhausen skeletons!
- And then my uncle called me, but there was more bad Morgana acting, the usual breaking of extremely rare magical items becuase Merlin is too much of a BAMF to use implements, and oh, yeah, the Slytherin/Hufflpeuffs simply ran away even though they could have easily taken the Castle....
Next week better be a different and better director. Show, return your former glory, you have not fallen far.
PS I really hope that the next director can tame this over-acting Morgana. SIMMER DOWN WITH THE CONSTANT EVIL SMILES GAAAAH.
