An inspiration from Checkov's Cherry Orchard. As I discover what it is to die to oneself from Tolstoy's Master and Man, and as I seek to face my own orchard and its impending death, this is what I uncovered.
When are you going to write a book? I can't wait to read it. I love your short stories and wish they would continue. I always feel somehow cheated when they end.
Anissa, you are no end of encouragement to me...I wish i knew what I was doing, or felt i had some sort of guide in all my writing. It is all so spontaneous that I don't know if I will be able to compile something of value. i have never really thought about writing a book. I guess the thought intimidates me
It shouldn't intimidate you. Just take it one step at a time. Deciding you want to put something together is usually the first one. Then it's a whole lot of brainstorming and bad ideas that get tossed around when you are at the dentist, on the bus, waiting in line at the supermarket. Hey, it doesn't even need a specific guide. Spontenaety could be the link, a bit stream of consciousness. It isn't hard to encourage talent......
Amy that is an extraordinary, beautiful piece of writing. Just keep doing what you are doing. You have found the knack here of turning the demise of your father's orchard into a thing of beauty- and in that way you have saved the essence of the orchard for your dad. After all nothing is permanent- but there is a permanence that resides in the heart and that is what creativity is all about. MG
