"Do you believe that life is 'fated' or 'pre-destined'?"
A resounding NO.
That's an excuse people use to relinquish responsibility for their lives. If everything is fated, might as well just go to sleep and live on auto-pilot. Obstacles become "inevitable" instead of challenges to be overcome.

I suppose one should seize any opportunity to improve one's life. And I don't at all think it's "scripted" because, as Leezner pointed out, that becomes a (lame) excuse. However, it takes major guts to take action and make decisions that are outside the realm of one's comfort zone.

you have smart friends. At any moment I could change my life and end up in prison. I could also end it. I choose not too. All indicators would point that neither of those is likely, but I could make them as such. This is why I'm a huge proponent of "free-will." I make my destiny. As far as improving your life? I just always read this...

"Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better. What if they are a little course, and you may get your coat soiled or torn? What if you do fail, and get fairly rolled in the dirt once or twice. Up again, you shall never be so afraid of a tumble."
