Back in the saddle

I just finished by first 12 hour night shift in ages...and I guess I still have the stamina for it...my interns were falling asleep but I did fine...fortunately it was raining here and that keeps everyone away from this ER...the opposite of the downtown ER I used to work...every homeless person in the city would come in for a warm spot and a meal ( Read more... )

I hope you don't mind, I've found your LJ through xonod, who I found through my friend Chip. I saw in your info that you went to PEA. I'm from Bedford, born and raised here. I will however be moving to Las Vegas in approximately three weeks to work in their EMS system for about a year. After that year of training and experience I plan on joining the Navy as a Corpsman. I always wanted to be a Marine, but I've found my calling in Emergency Medicine and I couldn't imagine turning my back on that. My hope is to become a PA while in the Navy, and someday work at Baltimore Shock-Trauma.

Well, I hope to hear from you. My name is Ashley by the way. Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you also! Emergency Medicine is a great gig...I don't think it's unusual that you were drawn to the idea of being a Marine and also to working EMS and wanting to go the EM route....lots of personality similarities between them...

Of course, if you don't change your mind a few times about what you want to do in life, then you're probably not normal...I went to college thinking I'd be an English major, ended up an Economics major and then went into Medicine...

The Las Vegas EMS system is a vibrant one...I have a friend who is a trauma orthopedist in LV...he is a Navy resevist who went to Iraq with me back in 2003...I am sure you will find it challenging and rewarding....

I see that Xonod posts alot of his day to day medical experiences, some very compelling reading...I probably won't do that as much on my LJ, but if you have an queswtions about the EMS stuff along the way, please feel free to ask, I used to run a large EMS training program overseas and may be able to help you out...

Anyway, nice to meet you....
