Well it has finally came and not without a lot of hopes, prayers and some help from referrals.
It started with a phone call
The person on the other side of the phone was my mom and she was telling me about a potential job opportunity. The person who owns the funeral home she works at is also a part owner of a place called
Automega .
If you don't go to the link, its a shop that does work on Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, and many others. The fellow who owns the other part is now the owner because his dad died and left it to him. At one point his dad was the sole Lamborghini dealer for all of Ontario. A gentleman who works there by the name of Jay Lloyd is factory trained by Porsche, worked for them for the last 34 years, owned a specialty shop in Hong Kong, and fabricates parts for Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini. On top of all that he also has raced in more countries than I dare shake a stick at.
So after my interview with John he let me speak with Jay and he was impressed with how I present myself, my appearance, desire to succeed, and how well spoken I am. So thus he told me he would refer me to the owner of Pfaff Porsche in Woodbridge, Chris Pfaff. After trying to reach him I was finally told to get a hold of the service manager and he was very interested in meeting me for an interview.
The interview with Porsche went well but unfortunately they are not hiring, but Chris Pfaff owns more than just a Porsche dealer. His dad started with a Porsche/VW/Audi dealer in Newmarket and expanded, opening more VW and Audi dealers and even a Toyota dealership. 5-6 years ago the Porsche part of the Newmarket store moved on to their current location in Woodbridge. Brad Meise, the service manager at Porsche told me he would pass my info and results of the interview on to the owner and get back to me. I persisted in finding out how things were going and called to find out they were trying to find out if any of their other dealers were looking for someone then or in the near future. I was then informed that one of their dealers was looking for someone but the service manager was off on training. He told me that the service manager would get back to me and set up an interview.
I got the idea that why wait for this guy to call me so I called Brad back to see what was going on. He told me then that he would call the service manager and see what the deal was but I prefered to contact him myself and was given a number and name.
So now I'm calling Newmarket VW/Audi to speak to the service manager Robert Fricker. After a short phone call conversation he told me to come by for an interview and so a date and time was set. This interview went better than the other two and I had to fill out a whole slew of forms so they could do a variety of checks on me. There was a background check, drivers abstract, education check, reference check and a couple others. The company who does these checks is acutally a competitor of Infocheck which some of you are familiar with as its the company that
branch_monster and
noxilot both work for.
So after contacting the company to give them a number to reach my teacher who is one of my references, they do their thing and get the info back to VW/Audi. Three days after my interview on monday, I get a beep on my line while talking to a friend. I flash over and it's Robert Fricker, the service manager. He asks my how I'm doing and I reply "Better now." He asks why and I inform him a friend came back from Cuba and brought me a good amount of cuban cigars and I'm smoking one at the time. He remarks that life is good then to which I reply with you betcha. Then he proceeds to ask if I'm still interested in a position at their dealership and I of course say yes. We set up a meeting for the next day at 10am.
I arrive early, really early because traffic was abnormally light and provided for a quick trip there. We discuss some things and the jist of it is that they are hiring me and would like to sign me as an apprentice upon completing a 90 day probationary period.
So as you may have deducted by now, I am now employed by Newmarket VW/Audi and start Sept. 5th. I will be bringing my tools tomorrow (wednesday) and dropping off my signed contract which outlines the conditions of my employment and some various other things like benefits and such.
