The Bluebird of Fretfulness

We have had a bluebird house up for years and never any bluebirds, only year after year of evicting sparrows and the like. Last year our luck changed when a pair of tree swallows moved in. Not bluebirds but still a species that deserves help in nesting accommodations.

I think I've mentioned that they mount two nest boxes close together out at the nature center? Sometimes back to back on the same pole. Bluebirds and tree swallows don't fight, but each will drive off other nesters of the same species.

Yep. We had a second box on its own pole some distance away but we took it down last year for some reason I do not recall. We ought to put it back.
