I was trying to figure that out too. Did he kill Daddy Petrelli? Could he have gotten Hiro's powers from him? I can't remember!

He did kill Arthur Patrelli, but he did it with a bullet (from Peter's gun), not with his screw-top head trick....
And from the sound of it he can't take powers from the dead... Even the recently dead...

I think he had Micah's father's power to be able to move in and out of solids.

Someone shot Micah's father (D.L.) so Sylar couldn't have taken his power.

Yep. But D.L. survived that gunshot, only to die from a different gunshot wound in L.A.
