Wow, did you write that? If not, can you tell me where it's from?

It's beautiful.

i did. Thank you very much!

What motivates you to read things?

The fact that I haven't read them yet. Curiosity is what drives me. I feel like I'm always searching, and sometimes books can be better companions than people as I travel along my path.

literature as much as I don't want to admit it is very much like film and televison. It provides us with a way to see things through another's eyes.

That was very well-worded.
Literature is an escape for me too. Literature is that rare constant in my life that can't judge me or make me feel inferior or lonely. Lately literature is my escape from familial pressures, as corny as it sounds. I read so that everyone will just leave me alone. Solitude is hard to achieve around here.

That sounds about like Faber (?) from Fahrenheit 451. Control is healthy...sounds cool.

Solitude is one of those things I sometimes desire and sometimes despise. Soap in the shower

aww
i think reading is good for anything.
understanding, escape, enjoyment, reading to write (like reading if you want to become a writer. it's really important to read in that case), education.
reading is just good in general.

Literature to me is multiple things:

A way to express myself.
A way to escape from both the inner and outer.
A way to entertain myself.
A way to keep my brain active and thinking.
A way to learn, observe, experience.
A way to keep people from bothering me.
A way to spark conversation.
A way to make sure I'm still human.

Did you mean just reading, or literature in all its applied versions? Either way, I think this states my views pretty clearly. :) I'm sure I can alwasy add to the list.

Hello,

I was speaking broadly intentionally, the passage can mean what you wish of it...the purpose was as a conversation starter

What about literature gives you a human feeling? What does it mean to be human?

Well language itself is something unique (as far as we know)to humans, so that in itself give me the feeling of being human.

There are of course animals that communicate and what not but there are no multiple words for certain feelings and such.

But in an aesthetic sense, I just really enjoy getting sucked into the poetry or story line.

What does it mean to be human? Well, I have no idea. Some say that it is our ability to be and/or think rationaly, moral sense, free will, blah.

But I think some of these traits are characteristic in animals as well, wouldn't you think? I've watched my cat, standing on a high place, hesitate while she chose to jump or not jump because it was too high. In this she also seems to be aware of her own death because she is taking measures to insure the health of her mortal body. Who knows though? It's really not a subject I've thought about too much until you asked. :)

To me humanness is purely biological. If one was confronted with a person in coma, who had lost the ability to moralize, choose, or think rationaly, they would Still be 'human'. The only thing especially unique about the title 'human' is the specific biological of homo sapien. That's my two cents anyways...to me the other things might be nice to have - might be desireous - but aren't any more 'human',
