Blaise Zabini's graphic rendering of the Dark Mark disturbs his painting tutor badly enough that the man calls off the rest of their scheduled sessions. This does not bother Blaise in the slightest. He felt from the beginning that the lessons were a waste of his time and that his teacher was a money-grubbing hack.

He starts cleaning up as soon as his now-former teacher scurries from the room. Blaise figures he has maybe three minutes before his mother comes in. He is rinsing out brushes in the sink when the door opens.

The former Mrs Zabini sweeps regally into the room, Blaise notices out of the corner of his eye. Even enraged she never makes a commotion, a trait Blaise has tried to emulate, albeit with mixed results.

"Blaise?" She speaks quietly so that he has to stop what he's doing in order to hear her. He takes a moment to admire his mother and her ways before answering.

"Yes, Mother?" He steps away from the sink and crosses the room to drop a short kiss on her cheek.

She glances at Blaise's painting, prominently displayed on the other side of the room. "Birthday present for Draco?"

Blaise sneers. "I thought it might be a suitable decoration for his Junior Death Eater Summer Camp." He is still bitterly disappointed in Draco's choice.

She hears it in his voice. He's never been able to keep anything from her. She remembers being 16 and knows that it's hard enough without a Dark Lord stealing your boyfriend. She reaches up and cups Blaise's jaw tenderly. "Tell you what. Why don't you leave this for Drabble to finish? Then you can go upstairs and pack." She drops her hand and walks to the door. She turns around to add, "I'm going to fire call your grandmother. Britain's been so gloomy this summer. A little Sicilian sunshine would do you some good."

His smile is repayment enough for the plans she's going to have to change.
