walking on clouds

snow spirals toward the ground
bringing me down with it
in a flurry of regret

her words haunt me
they burn like the bitter cold
of winter

i deconstructed one wall
only to find another lying behind it
one that i had helped to build

the peace and the comfort
have disappeared
anguish and misery
have taken up residence
