The soda company 7up recently came out with a new product: 100% Natural Flavors 7up.

Here is the ingredient list:

Filtered carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, natural citric acid, natural flavors, natural potassium citrate.

I appreciate that 7up is selling this new product as natural and healthy.  Why, then, are they still putting high ( Read more... )

7-up is a company that makes more bad choices than a tobacco company. they put in high fructose corn syrup because they believe that it would makes their Soda so popular, everyone will think Hight fructose Corn syrup is natural. But, They got sued because it wasn't. Go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_fructose_corn_syrup#Labeling_as_.22natural.22

Wow, I didn't know that. @@ Heh...just because they change the name slightly they escape the lawsuit? That is so evil. The name still means the same thing to the average consumer.

I sent them an email about this. Hopefully, an important person will read it and something will change. But, given the amount that corporations seem to care about their customers, probably nothing will.

Btw, the reason why they couldn't put stevia in that soda as a natural sweetener is because that plant wasn't recognized to be safe enough to be in sweeteners or in Sodas...yet...

Probably because so much money is being made from the production of high fructose corn syrup.

Hopefully the FDA approve stevia.

My concern is: how could the FDA have approved high fructose corn syrup in the first place? Wtf were they thinking?? Are they corrupt? Don't they Know that shit is Bad for you? I thought they were supposed to be looking out for us... =/

They might've thought that HFCS would be a perfect sweetener substitute rather than sugar so they generally allowed that to be put in soft drinks. While the U.S. FDA has no definition of "natural", CSPI claims that HFCS is not a “natural” ingredient due to the high level of processing and the use of at least one genetically modified (GMO) enzyme required to produce it. No Pandora, the FDA isn't Corrupt.. the FDA Couldn't Define HFCS as natural because it wasn't researched to make it a natural ingredient in soft drinks...

I'm glad they don't define it as natural, but it is a harmful substance and should not be put into food.

Re: Whats The Harm? ___pandora___ June 8 2008, 20:37:55 UTC
It is because it puts way more sugar into your bloodstream than your body can deal with at once. When there is sugar in the bloodstream your body releases insulin, which allows the sugar to be used as energy and for the excess to be stored for later use. This excess is...fat! yay! XP

If a person eats a diet high in sugar over a long period of time, their body's receptors for the hormone insulin can become resistant and the blood sugar may not be reduced effectively any more. If this happens, you can get type II diabetes.

There are a number of cardiovascular problems that can come later in life if a person lives with excess body fat. There is no need to drink the liquid candy that soda really is.

It's hard to stop drinking soda and fruit drinks, though, because we get that rush from all the sugar (and caffeine). I've been reducing high fructose corn syrup in my diet. It's hard and I backslide sometimes, but I am making progress. >

That new 7 up is nasty. It has an ugly after taste.

I rather stick to water.

I know the sugar in it is a diabetics worst nightmare.

Yeah, totally. Water is the best, and a diabetic can't go wrong.

Good thing I'm not diabetic.

How's school coming along?

Yeah, I'm not diabetic. But water is still the best. =) I do like unsweetened fruit drinks, tea, espresso and 1% milk, though, so it's not like I drink only water, XD, although I try to drink mostly water. I'd like to cut out espresso someday, but so far, I have been working on correcting other unhealthy habits before I tackle that one. *cries at the thought of losing soy lattes*

School went well. I am out of school at the moment. I have a job interview at WalMart on Monday. I have an orientation for the college I'm transferring to on Tuesday. I wish school could start sooner, but I have the whole summer off. Guess I'll make some money. ^^

How are things going with you?
