New UA song on MySpace

Jun 16, 2006 18:41

For anyone who hasn't heard about it, the first song from UA's new album, "Songs for a Widow", can be heard at http://myspace.com/untoashes. The song is called "Occupying Force". I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the album, based on this.

PS: I got this newsbit from the Projekt newsletter, so sign up for that for future updates.

Apparently, I somehow became unsubscribed from the Projekt newsletter at some point. I'll have to rectify that ...

I'm at work right now, where MySpace is blocked, so I'll have to listen to it later. I'm surprised (but at the same time not) that they already have something from their next (fifth!) album recorded. I do very much like the album's title.

Fifth album zomgz0rz! I think i'm going to like this one better than "Grave Blessings", which I was severely ambivalent about. I continue to abide by the opinion that Mariko is somehow on a different wavelength than the rest of the group, and that as a result their style/image changed rather abruptly, especially in GB, but it seems to have resettled now on a nice mix of medieval/power electronic stuff.

Just heard the song. WOW. You're right -- Unto Ashes are BACK. It was beautiful and disturbing at the same time. For a couple years, I haven't gotten such an intense vibe from their music. It's really, really nice for it to return.

I *completely* agree. I mean *nothing* against Mariko, who is great, but she did change the feel of things. This is going to sound like a contradiction, but I thought Grave Blessings was flawlessly executed ... I just was never as enthusiastic about it as I had been about the band in the past. I think, and hope, that time is soon going to prove that it was a transition album: they were doing what they do, which they're great at, but they were more or less going through the motions. Now, though, it sounds as though they've rejuvenated themselves.
