Also, it helps just to run around and fill out applications in the neighborhood, especially if you call back to check on them. Waitressing is generally a very high-stress, faced-pace job (from what I observe), but if you wanted to get into it, it might be a good first step to apply for a host position (what I do part time), the person who seats people at tables. It can get a little busy, but it's generally not too bad, because all you do is seat them in the right areas and watch the servers run around like chickens. Another thing that might be cool is to work at a bakery type place, something like Trotter's or Breadsmith, or something where you do customer service, but don't have to deal with 5 tables at once all demanding different things. And you know, even if you don't have experience, the fact that you're older and more mature than most high school students is a really good thing you have going for you.
