The issue isn't that we shouldn't think about abortion, or that abortion should be our number one concern. The issue is that abortion just plain wont be dealt with - right or wrong, that's the way it is. Bush, Bush and Reagan did nothing about abortion and they were in office during generally calmer times. They were all pro-life presidents but they did nothing about it and since there's so much going on right now I don't think McCain will do anything about it either. The best thing, in my opinion, is to vote based on the issues that will come up in the next four years so that the decisions that will actually be made will be made the right way. Besides, it's really got nothing to do with the president - he doesn't make any laws (or, at least, he really shouldn't be. The executive and legislative branches are separate for a reason). You need to elect the right senators to actually get any law talked about and voted on. All the president can do is choose to turn down the law, but even his veto can be ignored with enough votes.
But the abortion thing rests on a Supreme Court decision, and two judges are retiring. Also, the president has veto power. And Obama isn't just half-heartedly pro-choice, he's vehemently so.
