Rec's

Mar 23, 2009 16:10

Hey, I'm new here and I've recently began reading a lot again after about a year of nothing and I'm looking for as many new books as I can get my hands on. Does anyone have any fantasy rec's? Any favorites?

This isn't new, but Melanie Rawn's 'The Exiles Trilogy' has to be my favourite fantasy, if not my favourite books of all time. The premise is thre sisters fighting on opposing sides of a magical war.

The world building and characters are brilliant. The only problem is that the third installment doesn't look like it is going to come, like ever (it has been ten years). But if you haven't read it before, the books are amazing. :)

I can't think of any new fantasy books that aren't rip offs of others, but I can offer the Black Jewels Triology, if you like original magic and a bit of not-really-romance. If you're under the age of seventeen, I wouldn't read it.

I have the first of these books right now actually. A lot of people seem to like them.

This is technically -Irish- fantasy, but honestly, for me, anyway, you get so wrapped up in what's going on that you kind of forget that it's Irish fantasy, but the author does pull in some cool Irish stuff (i.e. fairies, folktales, etc), but I strongly recommend The Sevenwaters Trilogy (which technically has four books now) by Juliet Marillier if you haven't already read it. The first book is Daughter of the Forest, and it's based on the story of the brothers who are turned into swans. It's absolutely amazing and I am waiting for the day where they finally make a movie based on it.

You're very welcome. I love being able to tell others about that series. I've introduced a few of people to it and they pretty much all loved it.
