i just like when people come together.

Please explain how not supporting the war equates to not supporting the troops? I mean, it's funny to think that this is seen as wasteful when all the supporters of the war and neo-con dick riders are doing oh so much to show they care. Keep buying more ribbon magnets for your car, I'm sure the troops give a fuck when they are 15,000 miles away in a 120 degree desert. Supporting the troops? Why didn't the GOP war-backers do this when they voted AGAINST extending leave time for soldiers to (it used to be time off= time on or was greater than time deployed while now deployments are more frequent and often with very short breaks), failed to provide soldiers with adequate armor and has ignored numerous NIE's while pushing a failing strategy? While I may not agree with protesting, I feel that the "support our troops" crowd has, through their own ideology and ignorance of legislation, done more to support those that support policies that fail the troops.

As a person who is educated, active in Democratic politics and advocate of the general viewpoint they may represent, such "activism" really makes me upset and disheartened for a few reasons:

1. The people doing so think that they will actually bring about change and then become more angst-filled and disappointed when nothing happens. The problem is the medium of expression.

2. It represents the idea that paying attention to world events and dissent is a side hobby or a weekend activity when there isn't any shows to go to.

3. All of this energy could be channeled into a more meaningful form of activism. I feel that if the individuals involved really cared or wanted to be part of a specific movement, they would put their energy into doing so. Standing on a street corner to get reactions is just lazy.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents but I respect that you enjoyed it P dizzle.

you don't seem to agree with either one of the view points!
you disagreed with the protesting downtown
and you disagreed with the girl who wished people supported the troops.
i do appreciate your respect for my enjoyment though :]

also, we don't really know WHAT they do when they aren't standing on a corner holding a sign for attention.
maybe they are writing letters and signing petitions, and going about it in a more "meaningful form of activism."
i think holding up a sign on first street is showing everyone how they feel, but it's not to say that's the only thing they've got going on, activist wise. i'm just giving them the benefit of the doubt, i guess. and i'm not entirely sure why. so, who knows.

k i'm ready, go!

"Support the Troops" is a propaganda statement used by those who fail to realize that the GOP hasn't supported the interest of the troops and that not supporting a war does not equate to not supporting the troops. Dissent does not equal disrespect ( ... )

well shit. your input was brutal, and appreciated...
i'm doing fine, just going to school, working at a photography studio, doing ballet, and allegedly taking photographs of pathetic(?) protesters.

what about you? aside from being an active member of the left side :p
