I would suggest doing it. Even if you don't finish it, it's great for getting rid of writer's block. Also it gets you going so you can get in the habit of writing everyday.
I'm going to be doing it from Ecuador, secure in the knowledge that I will NOT finish it. But it's fun and if you don't take it too seriously it can be a great way to unblock yourself.

Support through gladiatorial face-offs. It makes sense to me.
