OK so I haven't been posting because I'm in New York and life is crazy and anything I really want to say is the same old shit... only multiplied by 1000. ( I am fat *sigh* )
i would make a game out of finding trendy places near you. judging by the locale there must be corner coffee shops, health places.. i dunno, just a suggestion but rather than obsess over the body you want to crawl out of and the food advertisements around every bloody corner (believe you me, it's in canada here too), find obsessions in hidden gem shops, ones with properly made porridge breakfasts. :]
i've noticed grazing constantly keeps me way, way saner than meals. a handful of crackers and an orange whenever i feel snacky is way, way more sufficient (and way, way less self-loath-inducing) than a big, oh-god-i-didn't-portion-that-well meal.
Thank you so much for this comment. It makes me feel like it's more doable.. eating healthy while I'm here. I will definitely do what you suggested. I've neglected healthy snacking while I've been here and I agree, it totally helps to avoid over-eating big meals. I can't believe I didn't think of it myself :-}
you're extremely welcome. i know how hard it is.. reminding yourself you don't NEED that treat right now, you can have it tomorrow or later. but sometimes (always) the want for it wins. and then it just turns into a nasty cycle of not liking yourself any more.
if anything has saved me in terms of snacks, it's crackers, veggies, fruit, fat-free yogurt and toast with jam. mostly because you can easily portion it and well, toast is just tasty. :] frozen meals and stuff are great but get pricey after a while. sometimes well-worth the expense though.
Keep thinking how much healthier that BMI is, it's really really..well..you probably don't like having a healthy bmi. I'd heard American food was bad, but you're still adjusting to a new lifestyle and I guarantee by the end of the year you'll know where to eat and what to eat etc. etc., it should be fine :-)
I'm glad you've met amazing people, that is seriously fantastic
We have to get together! Where in NYC are you staying anyway? I'm 10mins away, lol.
My BMI is about 19.4 at the moment.. I was at like, 17.5 not too long ago. It's hard =\ But I just have gotten used to throwing on my clothes and not obsessing in the mirror so much. I covered my full length in my room and only look in the one near my living room really quick to make sure everything looks okay.
American food IS terrible, lol. There are a lot of good healthy restaurants in the area, and in NJ too if you venture over this way at all.
I'm sure you've seen A LOT more obese people here than you are used to seeing.
Yes we do! I'm in Chelsea. My number's 646 242 6096 (did I give it to you already?) Send me a text! I go out most nights after school so you should come into New York and meet me for a drink or coffee one night :-) It would be awesome. I also really want to go over and see New Jersey and the giant mall or the Jersey shore while I'm here so we could meet there too. I finish school at 2pm on Tuesdays and then have the rest of the day off (although I'm desperately trying to find a job at the moment) so maybe that day would be good.
And yes, I'm trying not to look in the mirror too :-}
I'll bring you to NJ! It's nothing too special. When are you here until anyway? Haha. We could go to the beach one day... you can see the Boardwalk. Which mall? We have a million of them hahah.
Tuesdays work for me as of August! I'm off, I have therapy until 12 anyway so I could get to you by 2ish :)
Heh, since I've lived in America all my life, it's difficult for me to say American food is bad. I mean, dishes served at restaurants are served in huge portions and people go overboard with condiments, but my family has always eaten very healthily, so I was not much exposed to standard American fare growing up. To me, going out to a fast food place was like a special treat, I only did it once or twice a year.
You'll find in the city that there are a lot of vegan and vegetarian places that cater to a healthier crowd. I love to discover hidden places that only a small number of people frequent, that contain an unusual selection. So going on a hunt for these types of places could be fun, and helpful. *hugs* I know this time in your life is difficult for you, but believe me, you're doing so well and really trying! Don't be too hard on yourself. And New York City has so much to offer besides food. I know you can overcome this and begin to see life outside these struggles. ♥
