I dont think that you are insensitive because of the way that you reacted. I personally don't very well understand what brings a person to the point of wanting to end their life when they can change things and make them better. I think that most of those people are chemically imbalanced or just have no one to talk to when they are feeling so down and out in their life. Everything can get better at some point. Maybe they couldn't bear the thought that things could get worse.
I say kick them for not giving you the job. There are plenty of other jobs that I am sure that you can get and I wish you the best of luck to do it. Says I.
