Writer's Block: Forbidden Reading

(I actually have an icon for this!)

I never had to hide anything I read because frankly no one cared. Nothing was too taboo to read. Of course there were books that people told me not to read. My 3rd grade teacher told my mom not to let me read Harry Potter, but she let her own son read it (who was younger than me). Needless to say, I started Harry ( Read more... )

ya, teen reading, writer's block, vampires are forever, homo ja nai!, harry potter

(Really late to the party here, gomen!)

Goblet of Fire came out when you were in fourth grade? Wow, I feel...old. x.x I started reading them between PoA and Gof. I dunno how long the first three took, but from 4 on it was a day apiece.

Your teacher didn't want you to read vampire novels? But...vampires are awesome. (Have you read Silver Kiss?) Although I can't bring myself to read Twilight. Vampires should not sparkleI pretty much read sci-fi/fantasy (more fantasy). Love Pratchett's Discworld books a lot. Pride and Prejudice is, of course, utterly amazingly awesome. I haven't really been reading 'sophisticated' books lately. Don't have a lot of proper reading time in college, so when I do it's mostly Discworld. Although I'm shambling through Colbert's book, I Am America (And So Can You), very very slowly. I read the Fountainhead in high school and loved it. I've started Atlas Shrugged 2-3 times and have yet to make it through, even though I really want to. It's just so long and I never have enough time ( ... )

(I never got a comment notification in my inbox. Weird.)

It was definitely around 4th grade. Maybe a little before. My aunt bought it as a collector's item. I read it anyways.

Somewhat hippie English teacher is weird. I've never heard of Silver Kiss. A lot of people can't read Twatlight. It's not for people who admire the written word.

I'm guessing I should check out Discworld. Anderson wants us to read both sophisticated and YA books. She's reading Twilight too. lol I dread reading the Fountainhead. I dislike long books.

The Rainbow Boys series is really good. And Luna, but that's a transgender book. Hard Love is good. Boy Meets Boy is funny and short. Is He, or Isn't He? is okay, not the best.

I must say anything by Scott Westerfeld is delicious. And Holly Black. Also the Faerie Wars Chronicles is awesome by Herbie Brennan. He's Irish so the punctuation is weird.
