I made something rather fantastic earlier.
Pie crust + Nutella + egg wash + raw rane sugar = YUMMY.
They didn't take too terribly long to figure out. I'd seen someone try them out when I was using StumbleUpon but they weren't very descriptive with them. They ended up being SCRUMPTIOUS... and that's a word I don't use.
This is what I did:
*Roll out refrigerated pie crust [I used Hill Country Fare, you can use pretty much any kind -- OR you can use phyllo dough or puff pastry, depending on how flaky you want it] onto a flat surface. Using either a cookie cutter or a 1 cup measuring cup [I used the latter for lack of cookie cutter], cut out circles from the pie crust.
*Place a small dollop of Nutella just off-center. Using a small brush, take a small amount of egg wash and brush it along the outside edge of the side of the circle that has the Nutella.
*Fold the unbrushed side of the dough to the other side, creating a half-circle. Seal the edges so no Nutella gets out.
*With a fork, create crimps in the dough. This is to do two things: to ensure that the filling doesn't escape and to make the pastries look cool. I did it more for the cool factor.
*Brush egg wash along the top side of the pastry. If you so choose, you can use raw cane sugar [or any sort of coarse sugar] to sweeten the tops a little bit. I did them all with the sugar, so I'm not sure how it tastes sans sweetness. But they were marvelous just the same.
*Bake them in the oven at 450* for 9 minutes. Allow them to cool before chowing down on them.
Annnd... for your end result...
So delicious. So, so delicious.
