Productivity Is Paramount

I have been unspeakably busy as of late, but somehow I'm managing to get things done in a semi-fashionable manner. I hope to take pictures of my graphic design projects so I can update my portfolio website over christmas break. Unfortunately, said projects are on display in the halls at school, so I can't get at them. A man named Elvis that I work ( Read more... )

looks like the last supper. mmm supper.

i've seen a better version at johnny damon's house on MTV Cribs.

He was in the middle - of course - cause with the beard and long hair he looks like Jesus. And the other redsox were sitting around him. It was awesome.

haha oh jeez, here we go...well typical of the Renaissance it deals with symmetry and perfect form. The linear perspective leads your eye to the center and all the orthagonals come to a point right at Christ's head (this was borrowd from Massaccio). The three windows in the back represent the holy trinity and rather than give Christ a Halo, Da Vinci puts a pediment above his head to signify his immortality. The apostles are all in groups of 3 to provide symmetery and the holiness of all is illustrated by their distance from us by the huge horizontal line made by the table. All the gestures and glances of the apostles lead the viewer's eye to Christ. Judas is the one leaning accross the table (2nd figure left of Christ), before he was shown on the other side of the table to signify which one he is, but Leonardo didn't want that to interfere with his composition so this is what he did ( ... )

Haha! YES! That was exactly what I was hoping you would put. I knew a lot of it but couldn't remember it (windows and pediment for trinity and halo.

This painting covers a lot of what I love about the Renaissance period art. The symbolism and structures are amazing and never without a strategic purpose.

I'm curious what your personal opinion is of this painting/the Renaissance artists?

Well personally I do think it is beautiful and is the ideal Renaissance painting...but Leonardo doesn't exactly have a large portfolio and I think he was a better scientist than artist...like how Michelangelo, although a fanstastic painter, was a much better sculptor...

I actually like Leonardo's sketches and technical drawings more than his paintings...it seems like the paint just covers up his skill rather than enhances it

I agree about some of Leonardo's sketches. I like the embryo sketches and the studies of the facial features he does.
