#1 Don't hate yourself. You made a mistake. Everyone does. At least you know it was a mistake and aren't in denial. I'm sure you'll forgive yourself.

#2 It's no one else's business what you do with your life. If they judge you for it, then obviously they aren't a true friend. And saying you're headed for disaster is just...ridiculous to say the least.
