i agree. i purchased that album and i've tried hard to get into it, but man, it's not happening. the first tune is pretty awesome though i thought (i drink the poison! like eating glass!). the one about the price of gas kinda bothered me.

check this out: i rented the twin peaks pilot last night. it was the old vhs version, with extra footage. i figured the "extra footage" would be some short, forgettable scene, but no! it was an extended ending. when sarah palmer has the vision of the hand digging up the necklace, she actually has a vision of killer bob. then cooper actually meets one-armed mike at the hospital, and he gives his speech, and then they have a showdown with bob in the basement. then it says "25 years later" and it's the red room scene. it really confused the hell out of me. i think it must be a special version of the pilot designed to stand on its own as a movie. do you know anything about this? does the original pilot end when sarah has the vision of the necklace?

twin peaks was originally intended to be just a movie, wasn't it? or is it that mulholland drive was originally intended to be a tv show? it's the mystery of lynch.

yup, it's true. there were two pilots. one with an extended ending and one without. the one with the
extended ending was broadcast in europe. lynch and frost had gotten some of their funding for the
pilot from european producers. they wanted to be able to air it as a movie in and of itself. just in
case the pilot never went to series. this whole european producer thing is also why the pilot is not
included in the artisan released first season, i think.

i think the american pilot ends with sarah's vision of the necklace being dug up. by the way jay, we
ordered the pilot on dvd off ebay. (the american version (of the pilot, not ebay)). it's a hong kong
version. bad sound quality and not nearly as good looking as the artisan box set. but it works and
it's great to have. just deselect the mandarin subtitles. you won't find it anywhere else on dvd, i don't
think. i should get a life.

bloc party is another one of those bands--that seem to come around so often these days--being hyped as the saviours of RAWK! truth is their album, while quite good, is hardly exceptional and they'll probably be forgotten (musically) in a couple of years when their guitarist and singer are involved in a drive-by shooting in the hamptons.

check out what this guy from porkfitch said. . . i guess that settles that.

"People will love this record. And so, inevitably, the people who don't love it will start complaining. And when they complain, they'll point out that this is just a regular-old rock album, full of all the current stylish rock-album tricks. And they'll be absolutely right; at worst, Bloc Party are like one of those people who are so well-groomed that it's hard to remember exactly what they look like. But really, a complaint like that misses something: Being a good ol' unchallenging rock band is this outfit's whole point-- and their biggest strength."

fair enough, fucker. i hope you choke on your next prediction, though.

also from that review:

"what Bloc Party actually sound like drops pretty low on the list of things you need to know about Silent Alarm."

um, yeah. what a band sounds like is pretty low on the list of things i look for when listening to music.

Never, with unwarranted hullaballoo. barthinator June 17 2005, 08:27:17 UTC
I never have listened to them before. Now I never will. Ever. Just like that. If someone tries to make me, I will run away as fast as I can.

faster than that time we played doctor, nurse, patient and you were the patient?
'cause that was some pretty fast running. not fast enough though.

No, probably not that fast. Not quite the same kind of motivation, you know?

SQUEALIN' FART NOISES! _puffalump_ June 17 2005, 12:35:12 UTC
Dylan, why don't you stop listening to music. Then you can start the real thing, listening to other people poop and then you can record it then make a fart, moan and the odd splash track and listen to it where ever you go. I must warn you have to be very steathly to record someone's pooping noises but I have some suggestions:
1. This is lvl 1 steath skillz okay? Hide in the shower and don't breathe cause in showers noises echo.
2. Lvl 2 hide behind the door if they leave it open cause they might be very outgoing.
3. Lvl 3 hide in toilet paper roll must be an experience steath man and very tiny.
And here are some tips:
1. Don't go in if a fat man is pooping they regularly fog up the mirrors and you won't find your way out.
2. For something different take all the toilet paper out of the bathroom then you'll have a laugh effect.
3. and for the love of God, Dylan. Do not forget to wear an outfit, if you must know you have to look like a cat burglar

pitchfork's reviewers are a bunch of friggin wankers. Personally, I just go there to see what they've scored the albums and to get the names for bands I've never heard of... then I listen to the albums and come to my own conclusions.

As for bloc party - I love the album, but indeed it isn't anything special. It's just another guitar rock album from a london band. Catchy hooks, bouncing beats, fun vocals. I just match it up to this year's Franz Ferdinand, to be honest.

Every year has to have "the party album", and Bloc Party is this year's party album... until BSS release their new album this fall.
