At this point I feel as though writing by hand is archaic, and I pretty much have not done it since grade school and for taking notes. It's too much easier to edit errors out of your writing, arrange paragraphs, and a whole list of things with a computer. I edited a number of errors just now out of this simple comment. And with as much as I write, you must imagine how badly my hand would hurt. I suppose that I'm not a person who gives any merit to things for being "natural" or whatever. For hardcopies I will print.
thanks! i am having lots of fun already. i wasn't trying to tell everyone to go sign up, i don't even think you can anymore. i was just saying i know quite a few of my LJ friends are a part of the community, too. and they have been asking me to let them know when i post my pages. so that's what this entry is for!
it is definitely easier to correct mistakes while using a computer, but to me it takes a lot of the fun and personality out of my writing. i've almost all but forgotten how to write in script (or even write legibly for that matter), and i used to write all the time. that makes me sad. plus i think paper journals are wonderful, so that's mostly why i decided to take part. more as a challenge for myself to be creative every day. =)
Oh, I didn't mean to sound... Well, however I sounded. It just made me think that I couldn't imagine doing that. But I can see why some many people would like the idea.
i totally understand. to be honest i don't know if i can really see myself doing this long term. that's kind of why i decided to join and give it a go. i'll never know unless i try! i think if i can journal somewhat regularly i will be glad to have the journals at the end. the way things are shaping up i'm going to have quite a few of these moleskine cahiers after the year is over. then i can tie them up with ribbon, and sit them on a bookshelf, to be enjoyed all over again later!
thank you! i'm sure after the first few months i will need as much luck as i can get. i'm sure i'll still want to journal, i'll just find it impossible to find time to.
I still use a paper journal for most of my novel writing. Any major scenes are usually hashed out in the journal first, and then transcribed to the computer for major editing. I do wish my journal was a little more artistic, and I recently allowed myself to write in the margins when I realized additional information for the particular scene.
I miss your handwriting. The other day I was cleaning stuff and I found an old note of yours from high school haha. Excellent Whitman choice. Wicked is good, though surprisingly deep if you only know the musical.
"I recently allowed myself to write in the margins" LOL you rebel you! i think journals are so different from person to person. a lot of people try and force art journal type entries, it doesn't work that way! if people are mainly writers than write! if you like to keep track of your day to day stuff make your entries "dear diary"-ish! if you only draw and paint and can't think of anything to say don't write! hehe.
it hasn't changed much i'm sure. it's funny, but i've almost forgot how to write more than a few words at a time. i'm so used to talking on AIM and emailing and journal on LJ that i've completely lost touch with my handwriting.
jarrod loves the quote, too. he had forgotten about it until i showed him my journal and now he's going around saying, "i contain multitudes!" LOL, it's even his facebook status right now. =P
and wicked has been on my list a while now! but it's bumped up to the top because jarrod bought it a b&n a few weeks ago. he also bought me another one of gregory maguire for christmas! yay for boyfriends who
Yeah I know, I'm pretty crazy like that. I used to try to structure my journals a certain way, but I kind of like this new thing I'm doing.
I definitely had a dream the other night that I was teaching myself how to write in script again because I think my cursive looks stupid. I think it's because I found out there is such a thing as a disposable fountain pen, and I want it badly.
A boyfriend who reads?! I didn't think they existed! haha
