I watched Evening at Jarrod's place while he was away at work early Sunday morning.
It's definitely a chick flick. It's about mothers and daughters, and being mothers and daughters. Mind you I had no idea it was SO MUCH about mothers and daughters. I bawled the whole way through but I thought it was wonderful. There were so many good lines that ( Read more... )

That's weird that the movie is so much about mothers and daughters... the book is more about the mother drifting in and out of oblivion and memories due to her cancer drugs. But I'm glad the movie helped! You guys look cute together. :)

well the movie is definitely about that. her last doped up days. but to me it's not so much about her actually dying, it's about what everyone learns from it.

from her point of view, she learned a lot about "mistakes" and how she wasn't the perfect mother, but that nobody is. and her daughters learned that things they remember are only from their perspective. they realized that their mother was a young woman just like them, who was every bit as fallible as they are.

i dunno. to me the relationships of mother and daughter stood out after the movie was over. but maybe that's just because of where i'm coming from.

Well in that case, I can definitely see how they got that from the book, and why you feel that was the message in the movie. The book is a lot more subtle about general message of the story, but then, the book in general is really subtle. I haven't seen the movie, so I have no idea, really, and the book left me feeling very ambivalent about what I was supposed to feel/understand/think about after completing it. It was sort of a challenging read for me.

my next question was going to be, "is it worth the read?" overall did it leave you with a good taste in your mouth, or bad? challenging is okay as long as it's worth it in the end. but if it's not, i have so many other books on my "to read" list.
