I read God's Crucible when the owner of the bookstore I work in told me it was the best non-fiction he'd read in the last five years. It is definitely amazing.
The Saga of Cimba is a really good book about two guys who sailed a schooner from Novia Scotia to the South Pacific in the thirties. It's worth it for the capsizing in force 11 to 12 seas.
