DIRECTED BY DESIRE: THE COLLECTED POEMS OF JUNE JORDAN
The definitive volume of collected poems of the great poet and activist June Jordan (1936-2002) is finally available. Poets and friends of Jordan will come together on October 6th, 2005 at 7:30PM at the Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College to celebrate Jordan’s extraordinary life and life-saving poetry upon the publication of Directed By Desire: Collected Poems hot off the press from Copper Canyon Press.
The event, presented by the Poetry Society of America, will be introduced by the editors of Directed by Desire, Jan Heller Levi and Sara Miles. A stellar roster of poets and writers will read their favorite poems by Jordan and speak about her life and work. The participants include: Cornelius Eady, Laura Flanders, Joy Harjo, Bob Holman, Yusef Komunyakaa, Jan Heller Levi, Donna Masini, Honor Moore, Shelagh Patterson, Adrienne Rich, and Junichi Semitsu.
THE EVENT WILL INCLUDE VIDEO AND AUDIO OF JUNE JORDAN HERSELF, AND MUSIC FROM "COLLABORATION" THE CD OF HER WORKS SET TO MUSIC BY ADRIENNE TORF.
This celebration is co-sponsored by Cave Canem, Copper Canyon Press, and the Hunter College Graduate Writing Program.
