I hope that your family gets less crazy, but if not, I hope you can avoid the craziness as much as possible. That's one thing I love about not living in Seattle.

I don't know how your family is all situated - who is related to who - but, two guys going out and punching a couple rounds isn't uncommon. Especially, was more common with the older generations.
...It's bonding.

Even though he makes things so difficult for us, this still makes me sad. When he's not angry or trying to intimidate us he is actually nice to talk to. But I'm not even sure that he likes seeing us (hence his lack of effort to be nice), so maybe he doesn't care.
