considering his VP choice I would figure the lesser of two evils belonging firmly to Obama. Besides, in terms of policies and issues?
I can't necessarily be objective based on the fact that I do take many cues from important social issues, but allowing for subjectivity I don't see the superiority of either position. I would have figured you would have taken the libertarian approach and voted Ron Paul.

It took me a long time to move out from under my Republican/Conservative upbringing. I was in my late 20's before I would even consider voting blue. I'm still in some ways probably technically conservative, i.e. I am more comfortable with status quo than change. I also believe in taking responsibility for one self. But at heart, in every part of life, I am centrist. I also think universal health care is a right in the one of the richest countries on earth.
I cast my vote today, and it was for Obama. I want change (regardless of his slogan) I want leadership. I want diplomacy. I want not to be ashamed of my president. I want young, and I want dynamic. Also, whilst I think McCain could actually do a decent job, Palin scares the shit out of me.
