All the condos we have seen have also had dishwashers and fireplaces. The most expensive ones so far have been around $1025. If you can afford $1100 or $1200 or more, you'll get something nice for sure.
We don't have any neighbourhood in mind, but we would like to stay as close to town as possible. Ryan's office is at uvic and mine is in Oak Bay, so Esquimalt won't work for us. When are you looking for? I've noticed a few places posted for April already.
I don't mind house shopping, but the renting market is very competitive right now...there have been 2-3 other people on every tour we've been to & nicer places are snapped up so quickly. I called one agent & she was like "oh, I'm showing the place to 2 professional couples tonight, so it'll probably be gone tomorrow." First of all, professional?! And it was gone the next day!
I hate more when plans fall through, especially at the last moment for something you really want.
I feel so badly for Ryan! I think we're going to a clinic later, just to be sure. He's anti-meds (even tylenol) because his appendix almost exploded when he was younger when his dad told him to "just take some tylenol" to feel better.
Good idea going to the clinic -- my mom always used to harp on me if I ever had a sore neck because it might be meningitis.. :( Damn paranoia has been instilled in me too!

good luck on the house hunting! Our budget is slightly bigger than your and we also want a dishwasher. I'll keep my eye out - what neighbourhood?
