I'm so sick of being the reliable kid! Just because I go to work and actually DO my job, doesn't mean I'm always the one to call when a shift needs to be covered!! Even if I try to say no (ie...I have plans on Saturday...I never get Saturday off...I really don't want to work) they basically say "well, there's no one else" *silence silence silence ( Read more... )

Exactly. I was going to say something more mundane like "well, there's no one else" *silence silence silence* "we need someone strong on the shift"

Sara: "good idea! I'm sure you'll enjoy getting behind the counter again."

Or some such. But yours works.

uuuugh, i can relate. when i was in first year, living in res, they (zellers) hired me on the premise that i would work 15 hours per week. but they would call me every second day asking me to come in, and because im so spineless and succumb easily to guilt trips i ended up working like, 35 hours a week. my grades went to shit and i missed out on alot of those quintessential res experiences. it was poo.

only thing i can suggest is get call display :P

Yes, call display.. I am unable to say no too.. and call display saved me once or twice last summer from the tire shop. With the stamp store I can't just not take a call, so I've just gotten good at letting them know that sometimes I have priorities other than work.. still, I did give in and say I'd switch my shift this weekend even though I really didn't want to. My reason seemed lame compared to Catherine's reason for wanting to switch. and such is life..
