4. What are your hobbies/interests outside of HP? How do you feel these hobbies/interests contribute to your personality?
Well, first of all, I'm a really musical person. I play several instruments, and am always singing or humming whatever tune is going through my head. It helps me concentrate and puts me in a better mood.
I love spending time with my friends. We listen to music, go to parties, see movies, and all the normal stuff. I talk so much (some people say too much), and am usually the one who wants to do something wild and crazy.
But I have downtime as well. I love to read almost anything. I find a quiet place in my house and absorb myself in a book for hours on end.
And I like to do athletic things on my own, not as a part of a team. I love to run, when it's just me and the pavement. I love to ski, I just love the feeling of flying down that hill without a care in the world. Swimming is wonderful as well, the whole world just vanishes as soon as you plop your head in the water. It's just you and the silence.
5. Which Harry Potter character do you feel you can relate to the most? Explain. Which character is your favorite? Again, explain.
I feel like I relate to Ginny the most. I am the youngest sibling in my family; I have three older brothers. I realize that's not as bad a Ginny, but still. I am always trying to figure out how to get them to leave me alone about who I choose to date. I'm wild sometimes just to rebel against them because they drive me crazy. Also, like Ginny, I was infatuated with this one boy for the best of two years, and I was always too shy to speak to him.
But I'm not like Ginny because I don't really have her temper. I'm usually pretty calm with people.
6. Give us explanations and reasons for and against you being sorted into each house.
a. Gryffindor
For: I would stand up for what is right any day of the week, even if it's at a risk to me. I realize that's being brave in one way. And I would protect my friends and family at significant risk to my own health.
Against: I'm not brave to a fault, and I wouldn't protect someone I barely knew.
b. Hufflepuff
For: I'm very honest, and I think I have a good sense of morality.
Against: I can definitely be mean to get what I want. I'm not afraid to trample over people if I think they're going to hurt my family or friends, or even me. I'm rude and on edge sometimes.
c. Ravenclaw
For: I'm intelligent. I make good grades in school and I can see the big picture.
Against: Common sense is sometimes a problem. When I'm in a crazy mood, I can do some pretty stupid things.
d. Slytherin
For: I'm pretty manipulative. Isn't it awful? If I see a way out of a situation, I'll trick my way out of it. I'll get a friend to do something if I think it will have a good end result for me. I sometimes come up with elaborate schemes just for fun.
Against: I wouldn't harm someone else that is doing the right thing just to save myself.
7. What was your least favorite moment in HP?
That's a tricky question. Umm, I guess when Dumbledore told Harry about the Prophecy. It was just a terrible moment. Sirius had just died an hour ago and here is Harry, having to struggle to accept something that he should have heard about years ago. It also jerks the reader out of this little dreamworld where you think that nothing bad could happen to Harry with Dumbledore around. But then you realize that Dumbledore is human and he makes mistakes. The reader grows up in that moment with Harry. Almost like you're finding out Santa Claus isn't real. And it's an awful feeling.
8. What about HP appeals to you (e.g. the romance, the adventure, the friendships, the fantasy, the mystery)?
Well, we all know that J.K. Rowling is no great shakes at romance. So that's out. The adventure is grand and if it wasn't there I probably wouldn't read the books, but it's not the first thing that appeals to me. The friendships are to me a requirement. Harry needs friends to do what he does. The fantasy is probably the most appealing thing. I love to be transported into this other world where magic exists. It's a good feeling. The mystery is the second most appealing thing. It keeps you guessing.
9. What would you do if your friend was in danger? What would you give up in order to save them? Would you lay your life on the line?
I know this is terrible, but probably not. I like to think I would. But honestly, I don't think I have it in me. I'd probably get nervous and freeze up and then it would be too late. Actually, I don't know until I'm there and it's happening.
10. If you could only store one memory in the Pensieve to visit over again, which one would it be? Why?
A summer at summer camp. It was the best experience of my life. I made friends faster than I ever have, and I felt so close to them. The camp was out in the middle of nature, and it was wonderful to be in a place so beautiful surrounded by people I loved.
11. What excites you the most in life? Where do you get the most joy and fulfillment?
Probably a tie between music and nature. They make me feel alone and surrounded by people at the same time. I have a real sense of self when I'm doing both things, and I feel ready for whatever happens next.
12. If you were in Harry's position during the "Snape's Worst Memory" incident, how would you view Peter, James, Sirius, Lily, Remus, and Snape differently? Why?
Harry formulated his terrible opinion of his father very impulsively. I think I would have been more understanding. Everyone is different. Harry and his father grew up under completely different circumstances, and Harry didn't really think that through. Harry has had to mature so quickly, and James never went through any of that. It takes all kinds of people to make a world.
13. If you had access to a time turner without worry of not being able to return, nor any other restrictions, what would you use it for and why?
Probably to make more time for things I want to do. Have more time to read and play music and be in nature.
14. In the Philosopher’s Stone (AKA Sorcerer’s Stone) Neville had a choice: he could let his friends go out at night when they weren’t supposed to and potentially they could lose points for his house, or he could confront them and stop them from breaking the rules. What would you have done in his situation?
Let them go. I wouldn't have been as brave and Neville. I would probably have known Hermione was the best witch in the year and I was outnumbered and there was nothing I could do.
15. Who (dead, alive, or fictional) do you most admire? This can be someone from real life or from Harry Potter.
I most admire Jackie O. She was so poised and always knew the right thing to do. I wish I had it all together like she did.
16. What is your favorite book outside of Harry Potter? What is it about this book that endears it to you?
My favorite book outside of Harry Potter would have to be the Dan Brown books like The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons. I love how they wrap up mystery/action/adventure/romance all into one great book. I know they're supposed to be all controversial and everything, but to me it's just entertainment.
17. In Goblet of Fire, Harry was chosen for the Tri-Wizard Tournament even with the age-line. Ron was unable to enter because of the age restriction even though he really wanted to be a part of the Tournament. Was Ron right to be jealous/angry at Harry? Were Harry's reactions appropriate? Why?
Well, I suppose it wasn't right. But it was a human thing to do, and to me the books are all about the fact that even though these people are strange and wear long cloaks and are magical, that they are still human. Ron was jealous of Harry when he should have given him support, or at least listened to his side of the story.
And Harry should have confronted Ron about his feelings to get the whole thing straight.
18. Which class would you look forward to the most at Hogwarts? Which classes do you/did you excel in most at school?
I think I would really look forward to Transfiguration. That one seems like a challenge, but also like the end payoff would be worth the effort. If you could turn something ordinary into something extraordinary.
I excel the most in the arts, like music and art. I'm okay at science and english. Abysmal at history.
19. In the wizarding world, all 5th year students are required to pick a career to focus on going into their 6th and 7th years at Hogwarts. What career path would you choose? Why? How does it relate to what you wish to do (or are currently doing) in the future?
I would choose to be an architect, I think. Surely there are wizard architects? Someone has to make the buildings, right? It's art, and that's what I'm good out. But that would be in an ideal world.
I'll probably choose something more practical, like a steady career in medicine, in the future. Just so I know I'll have security.
20. In the Wizarding world, some pure-blood wizards consider Muggle-borns "filthy" and "horrible." In our world, people are categorized by their wealth, racial background, and appearance. What are your opinions on Muggle-borns? What are the qualities that you value in others?
I think it's terribly old-fashioned and archaic that wizards value pure blood so much. Muggle-borns sound like a much more pleasant lot than pure-bloods, actually. I think I respect Muggle-borns because they work so hard to be wizards. They leave the world they know behind and then as soon as they get to the wizarding world they face discrimination and contempt. They have to overcome, and I respect that more than the people who simply have it all by birth.
I value hard work and determination. I value people who want to be kind to other people. Compassionate people that think every person is worth something.
21. You have stumbled across five magical wells. One is the Well of Common Sense and Logic, the second is the Well of Creativity, the third is the Well of Optimism, the fourth is the Well of Physical Strength, and the fifth is the Well of Beauty. You can only drink from one well, but once you do you will be endowed with that ability for the rest of your life. Which well do you think you would definitely not need, and which do you think you would want to drink from?
I think I wouldn't need the Creativity Well. I'm definitely pretty creative.
The one that I would drink from is a tougher question. It would be a close call between the Well of Optimism and the Well of Beauty. It's hard for me to say this, but I think I'd pick the Well of Beauty. Vain, I know. Oh well.
22. If you had to make 5 Horcruxes, who are what objects would you choose and why? Meaning, what means the most to you and why what significance does it have that you would want to put your soul into it?
My violin, first of all, because it means a lot to me. Putting my soul in it might make it even more wonderful. Then I might put my soul in this beautiful glass vase my mother brought me back from China. It was very expensive and is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I might also put my soul in my journal, because it already contains part of my soul from all the words I've written in it. I could also make my locket that my father gave me a Horcrux. It is gold and dainty and has a picture of my mother on one side and my father on the other. I would probably make my last Horcrux my sapphire and diamond ring that was passed down to me from my grandmother.
23. What would your boggart form be and why?
I have no idea how my boggart would represent this, but my greatest fear is loneliness. To grow old alone, with no family, no friends, and no husband. It's not a rational fear but I can't really choose my fears.
