Snakes!

I saw the loveliest snake on Sunday. It was resting on a stone by the edge of the stream, and for I moment I didn't realize what it was. But then it moved, and looked right at me, and tasted the air to see what I was, and I suppose you could say we stared at each for a moment. We weren't far apart at all

Really? Oh, that must be interesting. They lead such quiet lives, you know. They're very shy creatures.

But I suppose you know that, don't you, if you can talk to them? *beams*

Oh. Yeah. Most of them just want to go about their own business and keep out of your way, you know? I've had some.. er.. trouble.. with some but most are OK.

*nods* They don't like being cornered - the first thing they try to do is hide.

But I suppose like any other creature, even humans, they can go off balance, and do mad things that most wouldn't normally. I'm sorry you've had trouble with those.

*grins* It's an excellent thing, to be on civilized terms with a reasonable being.

Oh, it is! I think that that is what I like. Yes.

It makes me feel very grown up and wide awake and, well, quiet. A nice kind of quiet.
