Nemo (or is he Dakkar, at this age?) watches him quietly; he doesn't have the same disconcerting stare now, because he fits his face better. He sits crosslegged and observes. Finally, leaning forward slightly, he asks,--

"What are you writing?"

Harbert starts, looks up, and smiles.

"Just notes, for when I see Mr. Cyrus again, so I can remember what I wanted to say. Hello."

"I apologise." (But it's a proud apology) "I was bold to ask. Hello."

Harbert smiles and closes the notebook, setting it aside. "It's quite all right. It's not even anything private, after all."
