"The Palestinians supply the blood." That would be a LOL if it weren't so true and sad.

I hope the Obama administration is able to put some weight into Middle East negotiations and get the Israelis serious about the two-state solution again. I found their incursion into Gaza reprehensible. Hundreds or thousands of Palestinians died in retaliation for rocket fire that killed dozens of Israelis. That is disproportionate force and if it's not outlawed by the Geneva Convention, it should be.

I give the filmmaker, who is Israeli, credit for being honest. I'll have to rent this one from Netflix. I also want to see Persepolis, which is about Iran after the revolution.

Disproportionate yes, but boys who tease tigers sometimes get eaten. That's the risk Iran was willing to take, again with the lives of Palestinians. I'd like to think that when there is no more oil, or no more need for it that the problems of the Middle East will finally be over, but I know that's not true. The problems of the Middle East predate the petrolium industry by far. The truth is that the problems will go on, but we will cease to care. And the Middle East will return to being another benighted land that no one cares to visit.

I haven't seen Persepolis, but I've seen a few other Iranian films and have enjoyed them all. That's how I know there is hope for the Iranian people. Any culture that can produce films worth seeing can't be all bad. Where there is art there is hope.
